Mayweather contemplating CBS fight in September

July 13, 2015 by Jason Cruz 35 Comments

Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is considering having his next fight on free television.   Coming off of the most expensive PPV in boxing history, Mayweather is considering his September 12th fight on CBS.

The CBSSports.com reports that Mayweather is considering all options for his last contracted fight under his Showtime deal including fighting on free television.  Showtime is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the CBS Corporation.

If Mayweather decides to fight on CBS, it would receive heavy support from pro and college football telecasts.  The SEC airs on CBS and although the first Sunday of the NFL season would not be until September 13th, it could easily promote Mayweather during its preseason games.

Payout Perspective:

Whether or not Mayweather fights on free television is still up in the air.  It would likely mean that Mayweather would take a financial “hit” since he would be losing out on PPV money.  Of course, you might see this play as long-term strategy.  At the end of his 6-fight contract with Showtime, a fight on free television should set the table for what he would want to do in the future.  Either fighting (under a new contract) or another endeavor, free television would give Mayweather exposure for his brand (not to mention his clothing line).  With a little over two months left, we should know the decision soon.

Hahaha. He knows his fight with Berto will bomb on ppv. If CBS goes through with this, they are going to flush millions down the drain, unless Haymon is willing to draw the funds from his hedge fund and flush more of their money down the drain.

Considering he just made 10X more money than all the fighters in the UFC combined throughout history in just one fight… it is GREAT to see him fight on free tv!

Considering you are an idiot that doesn’t know how to add, I understand why you throw out these ridiculous theories of delusion.

By the way, Gayweather promotes his fights. His promotional company makes far less than the UFC did in any given year.

What’s really going to be amusing though is when Gayweather invests all of his money into his promotional company and in 10 years it goes belly up because boxing gets devoured by mma. What’s on the horizon for boxing?? Gayweather-Berto?? Canelo- Cotto?? That’s it?? Pathetic. Can’t wait until McGregor-Aldo destroys both of those in everything.

Here is what is really amusing- the UFC has been outdrawing boxing as a whole for quite some time now, however boxing was always able to do one really big fight that stands out above anything. Next year, the UFC will have not only more ppv buys and revenue which they have been doing for years, but they will also have the biggest single event as well. When that happens- which it will with McGregor-Aldo plus UFC 200 will be massive as well, boxing fans will completely implode. The writing is on the wall, 2016 is the year boxing takes a massive dive. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!

He just announced that he started his training, but for a nameless opponent. Who will it be? Porter, Khan, Thurman, Golovkin… I would only get excited if he chooses Golovkin which I doubt, a rematch with Pacquiao? Highly doubtful as well…

boxing will win the ppv battle again this year. that will be threee years ina row. how some people think mma will devour boxing is beyond words and how they say they have been out drawing boxing is truly dlusional. these are people that said mayweather vs pacquio wouldnt do more than 3 million and mayweather would never make more than 100 million in a fight with pac. stop talking with fools guys.

Fagbusiness lying again. First off, 2 years ago- 2013(since you can’t count), boxing did not win the ppv battle. They did last year because of the UFC’s injuries. Their is still a lot of time left this year also. The UFC isn’t too far behind and boxing may only have 1 more ppv, where as the UFC has 5 lined up.

Only a brain dead retard would fabricate things like this, and be unaware of the fact that the only ppv boxing stars over the last 7 years will be retired very shortly. The same idiots that can’t comprehend this are the same idiots who are in denial about the UFC’s dominant control of the ppv and overall market share for years now. These same idiots also think PBC has been successful when in reality the numbers they are throwing out there are not sustainable. Lastly, these are the same idiots who believe this is a boxing website despite being labeled mmapayout.

On free televsion? Floyd must know how disappointed viewers were with that much-hyped $100 PPV and feels obligated to have his next fight on free TV. Good on him, I guess.

if he’s really gonna fight Berto you might as well put it on CBS, after finally getting Floyd/Manny how many are gonna pay to see this fight on PPV?

if MM fights did only 800-900k a Berto fight might only do 700k.

CBS could get big ratings for a free Floyd fight no matter the opponent, kind of like a make up for fans who spent 100 bucks on the Manny fight.

If he fights Khan it has to be on PPV cause that one sells 1-1.5 mill buys.

not that it matters but of course boxing will do more PPV buys this year when you have a PPv that does 4.5 mill buys.

Question is what about next year?

UFC will have McGregor/aldo, Jones probably comes back, UFC 200, a possible Ronda/Cyborg fight, CM PUnk debut, anderson Silva will return, GSP probably wont come back but he could.

Floyd might be gone, Manny is gone, Cotto/Canelo is a huge fight but thats this year, GGG hasnt sold a PPV.

UFC will do more buys next year for sure.

Chris, even with that inflated number that I don’t take seriously plus the Canelo-Cotto matchup that may do a million buys, the UFC very easily can get more buys than them this year, especially if Mayweather fights on CBS.

The reality though is that Mayweather-Berto will bomb royally in ppv if they take that route. We literally could see it do as low as 600k buys and the event as a whole would be a massive financial loss. He probably sees his only option as fighting on CBS.

lol they’e been saying MMA would take over boxing for years, and guess what it still hasn’t happened. MMA can’t even win the US, let alone europe, south america or anywhere else. D is still in denial that May Pac made as much as it did lol.

They were saying it would take over years ago, now it has. MMA is destroying boxing in the US and the global market combined doesn’t bring in what it does in the US. Plus the UFC is bigger in Brazil, Japan, Holland, Canada, Australia, etc.

Fag Fan is still in denial that Mayweather is retiring in the Fall, Pacquaio is retiring next year and the sport’s ppv market is heading for a massive collapse. I guess that’s what happens when you take promoters at their word. HAHA!

if mayweather were to do a ppv he would have fought khan or thurman. he’s doing this fight on cbs as a gift to the fans. he’s not going to fight khan on free tv because he would be leaving a lot of money on the table. he’s guaranteed 32 million regardless so fight for free on tv against a soft touch. at least 10 million will tune in.

A gift to the fans????? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Floyd Gayweather would never in a million years do anything to benefit anyone other than himself. His is the most arrogant, selfish piece of turd. If he were to fight Khan or Thurman he would risk losing at this point of his career. He doesn’t want to fight them because he wants his perfect record intact when he retires in September which is why he wants someone he knows has no chance of beating him like Berto. The problem with fighting Berto is if it is on ppv, the fight will bomb and he won’t make much money as compared to his standard ppv payouts.

10million tuning in would be a pathetic number considering the money that would have to go into this. NFL wild card playoff rounds average 25m just to put in perspective and that is averaged out from 4 games. The UFC hit 8.8m with Velasquez-JDS and those two were not huge stars at the time. If Liddell had fought, the number would have been bigger than 10m peak.
