UFC 188 attendance and bonuses

June 13, 2015 by Jason Cruz 12 Comments

MMA Junkie reports the attendance and bonuses from Saturday night’s UFC 188 from Mexico City, Mexico.

Per the post-fight press conference, the event drew 21,036 fans which is 36 more than its first time at the Mexico City Arena in Mexico City for UFC 180.

The bonuses of $50,000 each were awarded to Fabricio Werdum, Patrick Williams, Yair Rodriguez and Charles Rosa.  Werdum and Williams earned the performances of the night while Rodriguez and Rosa put on the Fight of the Night.

Payout Perspective:

Based on the attendance figures, the UFC is popular in Mexico City.  The gate was not announced so we are not sure if (or how many) comps were used to boost the attendance figure.  The bonuses were clear although Effy Escudero or Kevin Gastelum could have made arguments for a performance bonus.

I thought the crowd was very cool. Sucks for the UFC that Cain lost, they were really trying to market him.

Yup the UFC hiding financial numbers once again. Well at least they aren’t lying about it, like they have been doing for the last decade. Too bad for Cain!

He was sourcing HBO & Showtime’s release numbers.

Read his initial article where he sourced them.

I don’t think the UFC minded Cain losing. He never fought and was useless to them. In fact that’s why I wanted him to lose. He was stalling the division. Very fight was delayed a year or more.

This event had nowhere near the buzz that UFC 180 had prior to Velazquez pulling out. It pretty much flew under the radar and barely got any promotion with the Mexican media, the UFC is lucky to have pulled that attendance and shows there is a hardcore base of MMA fans in México.

UFC losing Cain is bad for them all over the place.
Werdum winning isnt a good look.
Old HWs who were considered done are now relevant again? Arlowski and Werdum.
It shows that the HW is weak and that the sport isnt really progressing.

The Gayest is too retarded to realize the UFC’s HW division is a million times better than boxing’s. There hasn’t been a US hw ppv in boxing in over a decade that did anything relevant.
