The UFC 187 Prelims on FS1 drew a viewership rating of 780,000 per Nielsen sources. The ratings reflect a modest increase from last month’s UFC 187.
The Prelims featured John Dodson taking on Zach Makovsky with Dodson getting the win. The viewership from the adult 18-49 demo was up from last May as it drew 453,000 viewers (vs. 382,000 last May).
2015 UFC PPV Prelims
UFC 182 – 1,030,000
UFC 183 – 1,546,000
UFC 184 – 1,205,000
UFC 185 – 1,003,000
UFC 186 – 710,000
UFC 187 – 780,000
Payout Perspective:
The ratings do not compare to the first 4 UFC Prelim cards of the year but Saturday’s show was a modest 9% improvement from April’s card. The NBA and NHL Playoffs probably contributed to the ratings as both leagues started games in the second hour of the UFC Prelims broadcast.

Prelims ratings don’t lead into PPV buys.
185 did over a million and viewers for the prelims but had disappointing PPV buys.
…and so we wait for the #s
Logical says
Remember when the ‘countdowns’ on Spike were a great indicator of PPV buys? back when life was so simple in the MMA world.
Now it seems most people give a combination of google trend data and prelims higher priority in predicting PPV’s. The UFC never releases OFFICIAL PPV numbers, we can only go by estimates.
UFC 182: ~400K Google Searches 1M Prelims (~750k est. PPV)
UFC 183: ~500k Google Searches 1.5M Prelims (~650k est. PPV)
UFC 184: ~1.2M Google Searches 1.2M Prelims (~550k est. PPV)
UFC 185: ~100k+ Google Searches 1M Prelims (~275k est. PPV)
UFC 186: No Google trend data? 700k Prelims (~100k est. PPV)
UFC 187: ~200k+ Google Searches 780k Prelims (? est. PPV)
Based on that, UFC 187 will be lucky to pull 500k in PPV, yet it had a much stronger gate than any of those other events in 2015… just makes things even more confusing lol

Gambino says
Just so you know D, just because this article uses the generic term “ppv prelims” doesn’t mean that any of these crap fights made it onto the actual ppv broadcast. So you can stop insisting that irrelevant club fighters are actually being featured on boxing ppv’s when a random blog refers to them as “ppv undercards”.
d says
I proved that Harness was on the televised portion.
Here were the pre ppv results:
Willie Nelson UD-10 John Jackson
Michael Medina UD-8 James Winchester
Wale Omotoso UD-8 Daniel Sostre
That article I gave was from the night of the fights. If Harness was on the pre ppv, then explain to me why on the night of the fights he wasn’t and why every source said he was on the televised portion? I didn’t realize that badlefthook was some random non credible blog. Hahaha. Idiot.
Why would every article be stating things like this:
“The rest of the Chavez Jr vs Martinez PPV undercard will be: Roman Martinez vs Miguel Beltran Jr for the vacant WBO super featherweight title; Matthew Macklin vs Joachim Alcine in a 10-round middleweight bout; and Subway Guy vs Missouri Club Guy in a six-round cash grab.”
Why wasn’t EVERY fight listed there since according to you, this was just a listing of the full card? Or was this article out of date also? Or are you starting to realize you are full of shit and are pathetically attempting to grasp for any straw you can find?
Along with that, every source stated that Harness was televised.
All the evidence proves what I said to be true.
Plus, where in your delusional mind, did you see anywhere in this article where it says PPV Prelims? I see it say UFC 187 prelims. The reason why they do that is to distinguish which was on free tv and which was on the actual ppv live. I notice you conveniently added that.
Just because you are a retard who can’t accept the fact that you were dead wrong, doesn’t mean I am not right.
Gambino says
You must be illiterate if you can’t see that the table and the graph on this article are labeled as PPV Prelims. You must be retarded if you think the Bad Left Hook article was written the night of the fight. It was written August 24th, 3 weeks before the fight even happened. There isn’t a single article written AFTER the bout took place that mentions it as being televised. The official bout sheet actually lists the Lee-Harness fight as starting half an hour before the ppv.

If the fight had been shown on ppv it would be easy to find full fight footage on YouTube like you can for every other fight on the card. The reason why you can’t is because the fight took place when the countdown show was being aired and the free portion was already over. The best you will find is highlights of the match which HBO did air to fill time but thats about it.

Last time I checked, September 15th WAS in fact the night of the fight. You would have to be retarded to not realize this.
The fight was aired during the ppv. I just watched it-the full fight from the ppv. Not the highlights. You are a fucking moron.

On the undercard, Guillermo Rigondeaux (10-0, 8 KO) will defend his WBA super bantamweight title against Robert Marroquin (22-1, 15 KO) in a 12-round bout; the vacant WBO super featherweight title will be decided between Puerto Rico’s Roman “Rocky” Martinez (25-1-1, 16 KO) and Mexico’s Miguel Beltran Jr (27-1, 17 KO) over 12 rounds; middleweight contender Matthew Macklin (28-4, 19 KO) looks to bounce back against Joachm Alcine (33-2-1, 19 KO) in a 10-round bout; and in an unusual move, Notre Dame graduate and Subway spokesman Mike Lee (10-0, 6 KO) will face Paul Harnes (4-3-1, 3 KO) in a four-round light heavyweight bout to open the show.

Just something to point out, even though it is irrelevant judging by the context of this argument(none of it is seeing how this was scheduled)- the fight was aired on tape delay- the full fight, but was aired on the ppv only on delay. Probably due to time issues, etc.
With that being said, what you are going to do is come back and say, that doesn’t count because it wasn’t live. Issue with that is it was scheduled for the ppv initially. It was scheduled for the ppv live up until the last minute, where it was then switched to a delay airing.
The point of this was that a main card fighter whose fight was featured in full on the ppv, who was scheduled as a live fight up until the last minute, only made $2k. That would have never happened to the worst fighter in the UFC at the time.

As I already pointed out the bout sheet clearly shows that Lee-Harness was never scheduled to air on ppv. The reason why there was some confusion was because HBO agreed to open the show with a highlights package, that’s it. No full fight ever aired or was gonna air.
There is a difference between selling a higher quantity of ppv’s and generating more revenue. In order for the UFC to match the $400 million+ that boxing has generated this year they’d need over 8 million total buys.
Chris says
playoffs def hurt numbers, losing Jones is gonna hurt the PPV numbers plus being same month as Manny/Floyd.
Guessing PPV does 350-400k. DId a great gate number which is def because the card was stacked with depth but main event is what sells PPV and without Jones and in same month as Floyd/Manny its not gonna do great imo.
Card was fantastic though, would say the fights this month after Floyd/Manny def made up for how shitty that fight was. Canelo, GGG and 187 made up for it atleast.
What did the NBC Boxing card do on Sat?

HAHAHA!!! You stupid fucking idiot!!! The link you posted citing my source just above is dated clear as day at the top of September 15th!!! It was the review of the fights from the prelims of that night(notably you can’t find Harness-Lee there). It even says the date in the link describing it, so you were too fucking stupid to even realize what you were posting.
The bout was 100% scheduled originally to air live on the ppv and eventually was aired on tape delay during the ppv- it was not a highlight package. The reason we know this was scheduled to be on the ppv is because EVERY source covering the fight including Badlefthook, Mike Lee, Fightnews, and every other outlet covering the fight stated this in print-plus it aired during the ppv. Lee even spoke specifically about how the sponsorship and press was great because he was going to be on the ppv. The confusion is only on the end of the retard arguing that it wasn’t supposed to be aired.
How about this from badlefthook:
“For the rest of you, the Subway guy is fighting some dude from Missouri on September 15 and it’s on a PPV show. He is there because he brings in some fans and Top Rank wants to see if he might sell a few pay-per-views, too, to people who couldn’t care less about Chavez Jr-Martinez. As it is “good for” Harness that he’s here, “good for” Top Rank, I guess. Because AT THE END OF THE DAY, who really cares one way or another? This is a fight that is on card that you were either going to watch, or not going to watch, and the existence of this changes nothing, because it’s not important enough to change anything. Bon appétit!”
http://www.badlefthook.com/2012/8/24/3266262/chavez-jr-vs-martinez-undercard-mike-lee-opponent-notre-dame-subway-hbo-boxing-news
Kind of tough for Top Rank to expect him possibly to sell ppvs from the non tv undercard portion of the fight, right idiot?
That’s just one of a number of articles that were written about his fight stating how he was scheduled to fight live on the ppv and then was altered to a tape delay airing during the ppv.
” There is a difference between selling a higher quantity of ppv’s and generating more revenue. In order for the UFC to match the $400 million+ that boxing has generated this year they’d need over 8 million total buys.”
Again, you are a retard. Your source from the May/Pac fight was the promotion, not an independent auditor. Also, your math is shit when it comes to UFC ppv buys being that inexpensive(based on your delusional figures). For Verizon, they cost $70 for hd.
Also, even with your bizarro world math, the UFC still managed to outdraw ppv in both revenue and buys in 7 of the last 8 years.
d says
Saldaqueef foaming at the mouth again. Ranting like the retard he is.

I guess Keith Kizer lied also:
“Here are the official contract purses for the televised bouts from each show, according to commission executive director Keith Kizer, plus other pertinent notes:
Thomas & Mack Center card: Chavez Jr. $3 million (plus pay-per-view upside); Martinez $1.4 million (plus pay-per-view upside); Roman Martinez $50,000; Miguel Beltran $25,000; Guillermo Rigondeaux $150,000; Robert Marroquin $50,000; Matthew Macklin $85,000; Joachim Alcine $61,000; Mike Lee $50,000; Paul Harness $2,000.”
http://espn.go.com/blog/dan-rafael/post/_/id/1862/las-vegas-fight-purses-announced
Maybe he was working for HBO with that confusion. Haha.

This was the actual link I was referring to http://www.badlefthook.com/2012/8/24/3266262/chavez-jr-vs-martinez-undercard-mike-lee-opponent-notre-dame-subway-hbo-boxing-news but all that is beside the point because here is the footage from the ppv https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSHkL1wV26Y
That sure as hell doesn’t look like a full fight.
As for the UFC ppv pricing, Verizon is only available to about 5% of all cable and satellite customers. Just about everybody else has it at $60 HD. And the $400 million from May-Pac didn’t come from the promoters. Many credible publications like Forbes, Wall Street Journal projected that would be the revenue if the fight reached the expected 3.5 million buys.
The UFC doesn’t release their revenue numbers but an article that came out a while back, during the Lesnar/GSP/Liddel era, that estimated it at $250 million for that one year. According to the Sports Business Journal boxing’s annual ppv revenue has been between $180-270 million from 2006-2013 so it’s more than likely that boxing has generated more revenue on more than one occasion and that doesn’t even include 2014-15 where it easily beat the UFC.
Gambino says
My previous comment is taking too long to approve but you can look up the fight on youtube and see that they only televised about 30 seconds of that fight and then moved on to the rest of the card. So technically yes, it was televised, but only in the form of a highlights segment.
saldathief says

Look at D trying to bog down conversation by arguing if Paul Harness was on a fuckin ppv like 3 years ago.
Thats what D will try to do. He will try to argue some stupid point that has no bearing and then hell argue semantics about it just to detour u from the real argument.
The real argument is that boxers make more than MMA fighters and its not an argument because its true
Jack says
@ The Greatest
D knows that the overall issue of fighter pay in mma vs boxing is a lost point for him. Among sane mma fans this is an accepted fact. But because he’s committed to this sad trolling mission he doesn’t want to just abandon the fight altogether when this issue comes up.
Arguing the pay of “prelim fighters” is his last desperate angle when trying to troll on this issue.
d says
Look at the gayest missing the context of the conversation like the retard that he is. Go back and read the conversation from the other article retard. This conversation started by that idiot claiming undercard fighters in boxing get paid more where we see clearly they do not.

He also didn’t read the context of the conversation because he is a retard who trolls an mma website and can’t think or comprehend anything.

By the way Jack, I was responding about main card fighter pay, not prelim, retard.
d says
To address your bullshit that finally posted- that doesn’t debunk anything moron. The fight was aired live. I provided sources that proved it like the link saying live that it was airing in full during the ppv on tape delay-which it was. I’m assuming at this point after Mr Kizer’s statements that you would admit the fight was also scheduled for the main card of the ppv to air live which was the entire point of the argument anyway. It proves that main card fighters on major boxing ppv’s can make a figure so pathetic, they are literally paying to fight. 2k is a disgrace and is a qtr of what prelim ufc fighters make these days.
As for the cost of the ufc ppv’s, that still proves your math was off, and show me a source where Verizon only makes up 5%.
Why are you so retarded? Don’t you ever stop lying? Those sources like the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, etc. do ZERO investigative journalism. They just take the word of the promotion. It has been going on for years now. Forbes and the WSJ know nothing about the fight business. Go read some of their past articles. I literally saw them source celebrity net worth before for GSP’s salary.
The UFC doesn’t release their ppv numbers and neither does Showtime and HBO. But you cite an article that you don’t link and just fabricate out of thin air and expect people to accept it. Delusional. The most credible source we have for UFC ppv numbers is Dave Meltzer and from his numbers, your figures are dead wrong, and clearly one of your many idiotic lies. There wasn’t one year where boxing generated more ppv revenue from 2007-2013 than the UFC. 2014 they did only because nearly every major ufc ppv headliner was injured and GSP/Silva didn’t fight. 2015 isn’t over yet idiot, so using that to verify your argument once again shows what type of tard you are.
Also, for your argument that will attempt to contradict the numbers because boxing does less ppv- it clearly isn’t just about the number of events because when boxing attempted to expand their ppv last year and had 7 events, they actually did less revenue than they did in 2013 where they had only 4 ppvs. So it isn’t about the amount. Boxing doesn’t have enough stars to sell ppvs. The UFC does.
As if this doesn’t destroy your argument already, the only two boxers who have sold a ppv as an A that have drawn over 475k buys over the past 7 years, will be retired by next year. Enjoy the iceberg heading their way!!
d says
*The fight was aired during the ppv on tape delay, not live, but aired during the ppv*
