UFC signs new broadcast deal in central Europe

March 10, 2015 by Jason Cruz 20 Comments

The UFC’s Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) division announced it has secured a new broadcast partnership with NOVA Sport which will allow those in the Czech Republic and Slovakia to see UFC events.

The countries in central Europe will be able to see every European event and other bouts from around the world per the NOVA Sport premium channel.  UFC fans will also get to see UFC Ultimate Insider weekly according to the UFC release.

Payout Perspective:

One thing that we have not learned from the announcement is the amount of homes that Nova Sport is currently in in these regions.  It appears to be a premium service so a monthly fee is likely attached.  It’s not a major deal but still secures two countries in central Europe.  As the company continues to expand into new areas, it is important to secure television deals in new parts of the world so that there is an ability to expand the product in those areas.

PPV’s back, constant expansion abroad, big name young stars stepping up in the ufc shows the sports ever increasing popularity and stability. I can’t say the same for the senior citizen sport boxing which has one more big fight left and has to buy time to get a network deal.

The Czech Rep at least Prague is a decent place, I dont think the people have very much extra money and who knows how this will go. I wouldn’t be jumping up for joy over this. It looks like the UFC is going after 3rd and 4rth rate markets with their tv deals abroad. Their model is changing every year it seems.

ha I have more experience and knowledge about the world then you will ever know. Seriously D playing video games and google makes you a fake, loser, wannbee expert on nothing bahahaha. You have never done anything, been anywhere and without a computer you would have no knowledge of anything. Free fight pass doesn’t make you worldly haha Love how the ufc keeps grabbing 3rd and 4 rth rate tv markets. Funny how no financial information is released, its obvious the UFc is paying for their content to air or they would be bragging about how much the deal is hahaha D cant even see a snow job because he is an amateur pee pee toucher ufc zombie hahahahahah

Hahaha. You have zero experience or knowledge about anything other than the series of medications you are administered you quack. Your world revolves around shitting in diapers and trolling mma sites because you are a pathetic, 50 year old geriatric who has no concept of hygiene over maintaining one’s health.

Funny how no financial information is ever released for any of these promotions- including boxing you fucking idiot. How many times can one person be wrong on here? I mean, everytime you post a comment you either blatantly lie or are dead wrong from stupidity.

HAHAHAHA!! Now you are taking your delusions to a larger level claiming that the UFC tv deals are buy time deals. Haha. You are confusing that with boxing’s deal with NBC.

    Fag for Arum…Saldaqueer!

It’s sad that the UFC has to brag about such a minor tv deal to try and prove that it’s a global sport. Meanwhile Gennady Golovkin fights are televised in 120 countries to tens of millions of viewers. http://www.boxingnews24.com/2015/03/golovkin-named-wbcs-fighter-of-the-month-outstanding-tv-ratings-reported-for-murray-knockou/

Also Pacquiao and Mayweather recently signed a very lucrative deal to have their fight simulcast in Mexico on the two largest networks where in that country alone they will be viewd by nearly 50 million viewers. This fight will have a huge global audience rivaling that or even surpassing the Super Bowl.

Boxing doesn’t need PPV to survive like the UFC when the sport is already making over $60 million just off of HBO and Showtime alone and they have much bigger tv contracts around the world. MMA is still lightyears away from matching boxings global audience and revenue.

Hahahaha!!! Delusions of f’ing grandeur. Wild Card playoff games would shatter the ratings for Mayweather-Pacquaio if it were on free tv. Anyone who attempts to compare the interest of the NFL to any other sport domestically is beyond delusional. The Super Bowl was viewed by 50% of public. HAHA!! NBC paid the NFL a billion, yes billion dollars to host the game and there are more revenue streams alongside that. HAHA!! Boxing fans are straight up nuts!

Boxing’s stars are all well into their 30s. These guys will be gone in a short period of time with no one to replace them.

It’s pathetic that they had to pay to get a network deal unlike the UFC’s deal with FOX.

Domestically the UFC brings in far more money than the big boxing promotions combined. HAHA!

My argument was never about boxings popularity in America or that the May/Pac fight was a bigger deal than the Super Bowl. I only argued that it will have a similar sized audience. They’re already guaranteed about 80 million combined viewers from just the Phillipines and Mexico alone. Add in the viewers from Japan, Germany, China, and the UK and that’s about 100 million. So while, yes, it’s true the NFL makes more money, the truth is that boxing even without this fight will still eclipse the worldwide popularity of MMA like it always has and always will.

Comparing the international market’s audience to the domestic audience is flawed because the money abroad is a fraction of what it is here.

Also, boxing is more popular abroad as a whole, but there are like 10 sports which are more popular globally than pro football and we see the significance of that.

By the way, mma is far more popular in Japan, and there are a few other international markets that mma is more popular like Australia, Brazil, Holland, Canada.

Being from Czech republic, some more info about this:

Nova Sport is one of the most important sport TV channels here (Nova TV as such is most watched TV channel in the country). Most of the time, you can have it as a part of your cable TV package (if you have some complete or plus package, you will also have Nova Sport included) or is available in SPORT package addon – which of course differs between different cable providers, but most of the time SPORT package means about 10 different sport channels, and price being somewhere between 2 – 5 $ per month.

How many homes really have Nova Sport is not really public information here.

Beginning of this deal: UFC 185 will be shown one week later, UFC FN 62+63 will be also delayed (don’t know how much), UFC FN 64 from Poland (next to Czech Republic) will be first event live.

Basically: This is a great deal for sport fans here and it could do wonders for MMA propagation here. But for real long-time MMA fans it is basically worthless deal: In this world, you cannot stay 1 week of social medias and wait 1 week for UFC event 🙂

Up till now, there were occasionaly our local events on TV (never live, always delayed, often even cut and divided into 2 pieces), Bellator on Eurosport late at night (live I think) and WSOF also delayed… but even then late in the night.
