UFC on Fox 14 draws 3.049M, Prelims do 607K on FS1

January 27, 2015 by Jason Cruz 16 Comments

Saturday night’s UFC on FOX 14 drew an average of 3.049 million viewers per Nielsen.  In addition, the Prelims on FS1 drew 607,000 viewers for the three hour show preceeding the two hour network card.

The two hour event on FOX won its time slot as well as coming in first in key adult and male demos.  It drew a 1.8 rating with a 3 share and its final peak rating drew 3.646 million viewers.  The event featured Alexander Gustafsson and Anthony Johnson.  “Rumble” scored an upset win over the hometown favorite.

The ratings are the best on FOX for the UFC since last year’s UFC on Fox 10 in January 2014 which featured Benson Henderson and Josh Thompson.

The UFC on Fox 14 Prelims are down from December’s UFC on Fox Prelims which drew 654,000 viewers.

Payout Perspective:

Despite this past Saturday’s event drawing less than previous network events in January, the ratings show that the promotion of the event from Fox during the NFL playoffs and other Fox sports have helped with awareness of the card.  The Prelims were slightly off of December’s ratings which may be due to the lack of name recognition from all of the non-US fighters.

Numbers would have been a little better if the main even would have lasted longer. It could have kept the 3.6 million peak longer and likely slightly improved on it.

nice number by the UFC. You can maintain a business with these numbers (over 3 million a show) but this puts to rest the “world domination” proclmations of Dana White. If after all this media effort this is the best you can do the UFC will never go mainstream. A sport needs to be able to get over 5 million on a big night to be considerd mainstream. These guys would get triple that:

Another fightbusiness moronic post. Yeah, they aren’t mainstream, that is why the dominated the ppv industry over 7 out of the past 8 years. And the only reason they didn’t last year was because of the injuries.

How many NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB players make 5 million in a night? Are they not mainstream?

D- you keep saying they “dominated” the ppv industry. what are they going up against: Boxing and Porn. Not exactly a crowded sports field. Secondly they have not “dominated” Boxing in ppv for the exception of the Lesnar years when the sport was new. The simply won. The last two rounds of the playoffs in the the NFL, MLB, and NBA all get over 5 million viewers a game. over 100 million watcth the superbowl. Thats mainstream.

First off, we are talking about event promotions, so they were going up against WWE and Boxing, and seeing how your argument is frequently claiming how much more interest there is in boxing, I would say this is pretty significant.

Also, they did DOMINATE boxing in ppv. This is getting pretty ridiculous with you. You don’t fact check anything you say. The information is literally on this website that proves what you are saying to be idiotic. The UFC was started in 1993. This was over 21 years ago. When Lesnar came along, the sport was not new. It had been around a long time before he entered the world of mma. No to mention, the success for the UFC’s ppv came after TUF, not after Lesnar arrived. Liddell-Ortiz II did over a million buys before Brock Lesnar ever stepped foot in the Octagon. Brock Lesnar also didn’t fight in 2012 and 2013 both years the UFC did around 6m ppv buys and sold significantly more than boxing in both buys and revenue.

3 million UFC fans watching for free, not bad, but ufc fox lacks any consistency which says a lot about the sport as a whole. Funny, half the adds were for UFC 183, so I guess the ufc is its best sponsor. they really like to shove the same crap down everyone’s throat. over and over gees give it a rest. News flash, MMA is still a new sport, and is still developing, growing and setting its place.

How did the UFC dominate when it was 13 ppvs against 4?
    Its not even comparable.
More people attend an MLB game a year than an NFL one, so does that mean the MLB is more popular?
No it means that you’re making a comparison of 162 games to 16 games.

Thats basically what you are doing with your “UFC dominated PPV” argument.
They didnt dominate shit. Boxing almost every year had the highest selling ppv.

Saldaquief- the UFC is “new” argument is getting old. Its been around for 21 years now. By 1920 Boxing was already being fought in stadiums and had millions of radio listeners. The President of the United States followed the sport. it was extremely mainstream. The UFC is no longer new.

A sport that hasn’t appeared in Madison Square Garden or in NYC, a sport that just got on network TV yea I would still consider it new. Comparing Boxing in the 1920’s when people didn’t have TV’s isn’t a valid comparison. But the” new” excuse is running its course, lets see what percentage of the 3 mil viewers actually buy 183. Personally I think 183 will be more of a fight then that JJ crap we just saw.

Hahaha. A sport that has an actual network deal as opposed to boxing which has to pay for one. A sport that has dominated the ppv market for years. Just because some scumbag union lobbyists are blocking them from NY, doesn’t mean it isn’t a valid sport, idiot.

Saldaqueef, your prediction for the Jones-Cormier fight was spot on. Haha. Guess you are doubling down on moron for this one.

Yea I think the spider diaz fight will be a better fight as a fight not as a sell you fucking moron! bahha Boxing will get huge coverage at the super bowl this year, will they even mention mma or the UFC? No they fucking wont! ask yourself why? Boxing has record network tv shows in the past, what does the UFC have? a deflated fox deal that is under performing by about 2 to 3 million vies per show fuck stick. Another stellar year for boxing and another stumbling year for MMA/ufc . More bullshit and more so called injuries. What next? Oh wait!!! Russian tv deal for the UFC I forgot bahahahahah pathetic!!

Boxing has network tv shows in the past…..key words… THE PAST! Boxing isn’t what it once was.

Everything else you are rambling about is incoherent. You are a professional retard.
