Jake Shields tops WSOF 17 salaries

January 22, 2015 by Jason Cruz 3 Comments

MMA Fighting reports on the salaries from WSOF 17 with Jake Shields taking home the top payout for the event.  The salary figures were released by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Via MMA Fighting:

Main Card (NBC Sports Network)

Jake Shields ($30,000 + $35,000 = $65,000) def. Brian Foster ($15,000)
Joe Condon ($3,000 + N/A = $3,000) def. Jonathan Nunez ($4,000)
Krasimir Mladenov ($2,000 + $2,000 = $4,000) def. Brendan Kornberger ($2,000)
Bryson Hansen ($4,000 + $4,000 = $8,000) def. Rudy Morales ($3,000)
Danny Davis Jr. ($2,000 + $2,000 = $4,000) def. Adam Cella ($1,200)

Preliminary Card (Online)

Jordan Rinaldi ($1,000 + $1,000 = $2,000) def. Soslan Abanokov ($1,000)
Donavon Frelow ($1,000 + $1,000 = $2,000) def. Taylor McCorriston ($1,000)
Trey Williams ($750 + $750 = $1,500) def. Jamie Point ($750)

Payout Perspective:

The $30K/$35K earnings are a far cry from when Shields entered the UFC as a hot star making $75K/$75K at UFC 121.  Foster, Shields’ opponent, was the only other fighter to make over $8,000.

I don’t know what kind of revenue 222k in ratings brings WSOF but I can’t imagine they are turning a profit, in which case, how much longer can they burn money?
