Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports reports that Richard Schaefer and Golden Boy have settled its lawsuit arising out of Schaefer’s departure from the boxing promotion last year. The settlement leaves Al Haymon with several key boxers for a shwow .
Golden Boy sought private arbitration to settle the departure of Schaefer from this past spring. Golden Boy was looking for $50 million in damages. Along with Schaefer, Floyd Mayweather and several key employees of Golden Boy left. As part of the settlement between the parties, Golden Boy relinquished the rights to several of the promotion’s top fighters notably Adrien Broner and Danny Garcia.
Golden Boy will retain the rights of Amir Khan, Lucas Matthysse and Leo Santa Cruz. The fighters remain advised by Al Haymon. The LA Times’ Larry Pugmire indicated that Marcos Maidana will leave to join Haymon (via Bad Left Hook). According to Iole’s article, Schaefer will be precluded from promoting for a period of time. But, he’s likely to officially join the Haymon/Mayweather camp.
Payout Perspective:
The settlement saves all parties a lot in legal fees. It also means that Al Haymon and his “advised fighters” can move forward with a possible network debut on NBC and NBC Sports. Golden Boy has a thinner roster but it will likely focus its efforts around Canelo Alvarez as the centerpiece for the company.

Hahahaha. Boxing is desperate. Look at them scramble. The promoters can’t afford lawsuits.

D- Rock nation just offered adrian Broner 40 million for a 5 year deal. Why would you ofer that money for a dying sport. above average Broner is already being offered more than Jon Jones. LOL
d says
Delusions of grandeur. Broner has never made more money than Jones in his life. Stop lying.
d says
Some of Broner’s purses(note, since he can’t sell a ppv, he receives no ppv revenue, haha)
1.25m vs Molina
1.5m vs Malignanni
1.25m vs. Maidana
This guy isn’t making the money you claim despite what he says.
Pink Pig says
Roc nation wants in.
Haymon doing a NBC deal.
The sport is constantly expanding.
UFC? Not so much…
d says
More like boxing is constantly declining. Their only ppv stars are at the end of the road.
Haymon’s NBC deal will bomb IF it goes through because they don’t have stars that anyone will want to watch.
The UFC HAS a network deal.
They HAVE dominated the ppv market share for 7 out of the past 8 years and the only reason they didn’t this year was because of the ridiculous amount of injuries.
Boxing…….good luck when Mayweather retires next year.

D is laughable!! what a jack ass. hahahahah
d says
Sal smells like farts and vomit. He is a wheel chair bound geriatric. He doesn’t know what a corporation is. Hahahaha!
saldathief says
40 million hahahahah thats the entire ufc fighter payroll for a year hahah Yea sure boxing is on the decline hahaha
d says
40 million? Fictitious numbers are always amusing. Not to mention your conclusion is beyond idiotic and delusional.

D is panicking hahahaha….ufc fighters fame and no fortune haha..ufc .fastest declining sport
d says
Hahahaha. Topps read the article, the only ones panicking here are the boxing promoters who need welfare. Hahaha. Talk about declining, wait until Mayweather retires. Who’s gonna fill that void? Broner? His ppv’s get cancelled. He can’t even sell 100k ppvs. Hahaha.
tops E says
Ufc cant pay for drug testing and needs reebok to pay fighters a tiny increase hahahaha and they have a huge debt due….hahaha
d says
Hahaha. GB and Top Rank can’t pay for drug testing and require the boxers to pay for urine tests. Hahaha. Don’t even think about blood testing which the ufc pays for at least on occasion.

I don’t know why Roc Nation made that offer. I respect Jay-Z’s business acumen; certainly he’s been successful at every business endeavor he’s taken up. But I saw their first card on TV this past Friday – it was held at Madison Square Garden, televised on FS1, Bruce Buffer was the ring announcer, Gus Johnson was the play-by-play man, there was someone who I assume was a big star singing before the main event (I have no idea who it was, but that doesn’t preclude him from being a big star), and the crowd was filled with celebs. The only problems – I didn’t recognize any of the fighters, the match-ups were completely lop-sided and the main event was for the Continental WBO Provisional Championship, or some crap like that – essentially a paper copy of a paper title.
So they pulled out all the stops for what were mediocre fights at best. I enjoyed the Friday Night Fights season debut much more, which is at least an honest show where they make an effort to get real matchups, even if they don’t have big names.
I know that Roc Nation signed Andre Ward (who is just behind Rigondeaux as the best boxer on the planet who can put fans to sleep with his style) and tried but failed to sign Broner (for $4M per fight for 10 fights over 5 years). If they offered Broner that much, I can only assume they offered Ward, who is a bona fide champ who has fought and dominated the very best at Super Middleweight, much more.
I just don’t understand how they plan to make money. We’ll see what happens going forward, but so far, it seems to be all flash and no action.
Pink Pig says
That ain’t your problem how Roc will make money.
The same can be said of Zuffa… who knows how they make money with their enormous overhead and ultimate reliability on big name fighters to draw.
No GSP, Silva, Jones, or Cain and they are essentially 50% down in PPV revenue. Who really holds the chips?
d says
No, the point is, if ROC actually offered those types of contracts, they would be losing money because those fighters can’t generate that type of revenue. Zuffa can and has proven it. What is this enormous overhead? According to homos like you, they pay their fighters dirt. You can’t have it both ways fucking idiot.
The reason the ppv was down that badly was primarily because of the injuries. You are very dumb.
Pink Pig says
Ahahahahaha
Ahahaha
Ahaha
d says
That is what NBC is saying to Al Hayman. Hahahaha.
Diego says
“That ain’t your problem how Roc will make money.”
As a fan of the sport, it is actually my problem. So eat a dick Pink Pig. Try to add value to the debate sometime.
