UFC 180 will be shown in movie theaters

October 10, 2014 by Jason Cruz 4 Comments

The UFC will once again partner with Fathom Events to bring a UFC PPV to movie theaters.  UFC 180 will be shown in movie theaters on Saturday, November 15th.

As announced via the UFC Facebook page, the UFC is hyping up this event by giving people additional ways to find it.

Post by UFC.

Payout Perspective:

In Seattle, these UFC movie events are usually shown in 1 or 2 theaters in the suburbs.  However, a brief glance at possible places to watch UFC 180 in movie theaters shows 4 areas around the city with tickets ranging from $15-$18 depending on where you go ($13 for kids).   With the event selling out, one would think the UFC wants as many people to watch the event and see the atmosphere in Mexico City.  While this may detract from PPV buys, it was likely that the buy rate was going to be marginal considering the focus on the Latin American/Mexican audience.

Very nice article Jason, and very interesting indeed. I’ve often wondered why the UFC didn’t play in theater’s, and heard that it occasionally did “in Canada” or “in the Seattle area.” A PPV price tag, for me in Maryland anyway, is literally pushing $70 — when you add in taxes and the “Maryland sports franchise fee”. So I honestly can’t afford to buy but 1 or 2 a year. But having an opportunity to go to a theater and see a great night of fights for $18, surrounded by others who like MMA as much as I do, I could really go for that. (That goes double if the Leslie Smith – Jessica Eye fight is on the PPV main care.) I win, the UFC wins, the theater wins. Hopefully UFC180 will be showing somewhere near me.

UFC is taking a page out of the boxing playbook Boxing invented the theater simulcast. Nothing original here. Shows that the ufc is out of any original ideas, they should have done this years ago. 70 bucks bahahha give us a break that’s just robbery!

Dana White is such a MAGA stooge. He runs around every podcast talking about how he’s “not political” and how Donald Trump is “just his friend,” all while asking that same friend to help him write off more gambling losses and throwing him a UFC fight in front of the White House

Howard Schultz sold out Seattle because he's a greedy prick who couldn't care less about the city that helped make him wealthy.

Anything he has to say about city leadership or policy is irrelevant and probably horseshit based on who he is as a person.
