UFC Fight Night 54 on FX: 413K, but last hour does well on FS1

October 7, 2014 by Jason Cruz 16 Comments

MMA Payout has learned that Saturday night’s UFC Fight Night 54 which aired on multiple Fox networks due to MLB baseball drew a final overnight viewership number of 1,267,000 in the last hour of the event if you include viewership on both FX and FS1.

The event was simulcast on both stations as FX aired the complete UFC Fight Night card from Halifax while FS1 aired the last hour after the Washington Nationals-San Francisco Giants extra, extra inning game.

Broken down, the 3 hour and 2 minute main card on FX received an overall viewership of 413,000 and scored 0.20 in the overall adults 18-49 demo, 0.28 in the males 18-49 and 0.27 in the males 18-34.  When the fights were switched onto FS1, there was a boost in viewership as that block received 799,000 viewers and scored 0.50 in the adults 18-49 demo, 0.71 in males 18-49 and 0.56 in males 18-34.

In addition, the prelims for UFC Fight Night 54 received a viewership of 102,000 in the 2 hour block on Fox Sports 2.

Payout Perspective:

I would say that we’d have to throw out the ratings for this night as MLB took it over on FS1.  Still, to have 799,000 viewers tune into the last hour of the event likely meant a residual amount of people stayed and watched the fights.  One would think that a great deal of the 413,000 viewers on FX were UFC fans (and not just people too lazy to turn their channel) that found the event after it was moved.  The DVR numbers may not do much here since many people that wanted to watch the fights on FS1 wound up with a lot of baseball.

Ok tops how do you suggest getting the UFC ratings for this event? I missed most of the beginning of the event because I did t know it was on FX. In the end 1.2 million were watching the event regardless of what they intended to watch.

These numbers are right on with everything I have been saying! FUNNY how that works! Funny how everything about the UFC ends with the word ‘but” But but but !! Always ending with an excuse or some bullshit explanation. Fox is putting the UFC in the back seat and bouncing them around. The UFC has lost its edge with Fox and got their cards pulled. These numbers arnt bad if you look at the ufc with some reality and not fantasy. Unfortunately all the budgets are geared towards much much higher numbers. Fox was expecting the ufc shows to grow and grow not stagnate and decline. Whenever you have to explain a ratings number its a joke! Sponsors laugh at this kind of crap, real hard numbers are the only thing that matters not fluff.

OK MMAPayout I think you should really consider disabling comments. This site is infested with UFC haters and defenders. It is really annoying to see these spats in every article.

    Salad,

Of course you are wrong again. How do you know what Fox expected? What we do know is they were perfectly aware of how difficult starting a new network is. Their goal was to compete with ESPN knowing many other networks have tried and are trying with no success. We can also deduce they expected a slow start by the length of contract they signed with the UFC. You don’t sign a 7 year deal if you are expecting early results. The UFC had typically been signing 3-4 year deals.

If you average out the viewership over 3 hours and factor in the reach of FX and FS 1, this is the equivalent of the show averaging 597,000 for 3 hours on FS 1, which is right around what past ratings projected this show to do.

The prelims number was awful, even for FS 2. The show projected to do about 150K.

No Sal, you just lie and your response to when someone calls you out on your bullshit lies and proves with statistics that you lied. You just go on an incoherent tirade about how you are banging Indian guys or Bob Arum or how New York is Mexico, or how much insulin you need on a daily basis, etc. You are such a gay, smelly moronic troll who wears diapers.

No you don’t, you post because you are a fag for Bob Arum, welfare to work boxing troll. If you analyze any report any fight promotion presents, 9 times out of 10 it is a spin, yet you focus solely on the ufc and other mma promotions, because of your homo behavior. You can’t handle the reality that karate never took off and you can’t break boards anymore, nor can you handle the fact that boxing lost the marketshare a long time ago and is about to take even a bigger hit than they can deal with because by far the sport’s biggest draw-arguably the biggest draw ever in boxing is going to retire 2 fights from now and then you will see a massive decline in ppv numbers. Then Uncle Bobby will have him choke on his dick even longer to spin more of his bullshit. This smelly old diaper wearing geriatric can’t get out of his wheel chair so he just sits in front of his computer all day releasing his gay anger on a mma website. What a fag!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
