UFC Fight Night 51 attendance and bonuses

September 13, 2014 by Jason Cruz 10 Comments

MMA Junkie reports the attendance and bonuses from Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 51 taking place from Brasilla, Brazil.  The numbers were announced during the post-fight press conference.

The attendance reveals that there were 8,822 fans in attendance with 1,173 of those comped tickets.  According to the Junkie report, the UFC “does not typically reveal live gate figures for its Brazilian events.” Thus, there were 7,649 that paid. For those wondering, the Nilson Nelson Gymnasium (where the event was held) holds 16,000 spectators.

The bonuses for the event were as follows:

FOTN:  Piotr Hallman-Greyson Tibau

Performance bonuses:  Godofredo Pepey, Andrei Arlovski

Payout Perspective:

The most notable bonus here is Arlovski who upset Bigfoot Silva.  Arlovski did not look good in his return fight to the UFC this past June at UFC 174, so this KO was a pleasant surprise.  It’s interesting that the article indicates that live gate figures are not released for Brazil shows although no reason was given.

Pathetic numbers! Millions of people watch the ufc for free on tv in Brazil and they won’t spend a dime to come and see it live, goes to show you that there are many markets that are a complete waste of time and money. I am really surprised that the ufc isn’t more popular there. Another failure of world domination theory!

Who was they supposed to see? Big Foot? The UFC hasn’t been promoting him and nothing suggest he would be a big draw. That’s like expecting Be. rogue ell to sell out the MGM Grand. We have seen when they use Wandy or Vitor or Aldo, fuys they have promoted there that the attendance is larger. I also wonder if poverty is t keeping some of the tv viewers from attending live events.

    BS,

It may also be the opposite effect. Brasilia is the capital and by Brazilian standards I believe it may be fairly wealthy and middle-upper class. I think the MMA fan base (much like the soccer fan base) is more among the working class folks. In short, I wonder if Brasilia is a good spot for them. I think Sao Paolo, Rio or Curitiba would have been better, but it’s tough to know for sure.

    Sal,

I’m happy that the UFC is trying new places, but it can’t be expected that every city will do well. It’s impossible to know if a market is a waste of money until you go there.

Brazil is the country that started mma! Brazil has its very own system of martial arts that is a major component of mma. BJJ is practiced and taught to millions of Brazilians! Its is their very own original sport, Vale Tudo the essence of mma is very popular. Brazilians at any given moment dominate the ufc and mma! So why is it doing mediocre or ever poorly?? Why would anybody compare Brazil to any other country when it comes to NHB fighting or mma? Why is nearly every country the UFC goes to basically a push? why hasn’t there been a major event outside the USA like a stadium show? Why is UFC in brazil not a major draw? The UFC should be as big as boxing is in mexico in Brazil. If there are any outer countries that dominate the sport like Brazilians do please share it with us. I hope I made my point as to why I am surprised its not bigger.

It’s going to be hilarious to see that gigantic world cup stadium 80% empty when they have a show there.

Here we go again with Sal’s lies and bullshit because Old Dirty Bob Arum’s putting him up to it. When they have low level shows, they get low turnouts, when they have big shows with fighters like Anderson Silva, they get huge turnouts. Tens of millions have tuned in to watch fighters like A. Silva, Belfort, and Aldo fight in Brazil. They have massive tv contracts in Brazil.

Sal’s problem is he is completely full of shit and likes to lie because he is dirty Bobbi’s minion. What a fag!

Yes, the Pulitzer-winning journalist is the source we should ignore, not the people who continue to want access to the LA sports team they cover. This was a dumb thing to think and an even dumber thing to tweet.
