UFC Fight Night 47: 735,000 viewers

August 19, 2014 by Jason Cruz 13 Comments

MMA Payout has learned from Nielsen sources that this past Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 47 received an average of 735,000 viewers. The prelims for the event on Fox Sports 2 received an average viewership of 116,000 viewers.

UFC Fight Night 47 which featured Ryan Bader defeating Ovince St. Preux in the main event was up almost 5% from UFC Fight Night 45, the previous Fight Night on FS1.  Below is a graph of the Fight Nights on FS1 since the beginning of the year.  It excludes those Fight Nights on Fight Pass since viewership numbers for those events are not released.

UFC FN TV Ratings 2014

According to Sports Business Journal’s John Ourand, UFC Fight Night 47 was the top audience on FS1 for the week.

FS1’s top audience for the week came with the UFC on Saturday night: 735K viewers.

— John Ourand (@Ourand_SBJ) August 19, 2014

Payout Perspective:

Due to a programming conflict with MLB, the prelims were on FS2 and thus the reason for the low number. Based on Ourand’s tweet, it reflects the value UFC has to the network. The average viewership for UFC Fight Night events on FS1 since the start of the year is a little over 862,000 viewers.

The future of the UFC is as a stagnant property that once in a while produces a star that crosses into the mainstream. It’s not going anywhere and definitely has its niche audience, as these type of numbers prove.

They had a fast drastic rise to the top ever since the original TUF season, but they’ve hit their ceiling and it’s all downhill or maintain for now. The sooner they realize that the better off they’ll be and hopefully stop wasting so many resources and acquiring so much debt in their quest for “World Domination” by watered-down product.

Hey look at all the moronic trolls claiming that the UFC is going down the toilet, yet they troll every single UFC or MMA article on this website. Talk about a bunch of autistic kids getting a hold of their parent’s computer.

    Haha. Idiots.

Tops is to much an inbred to realize any low numbers is a direct reflection of the network not the UFC. The fact the UFC can take it product on basically a dead network and draw decent ratings is proof the product is strong.

I believe if something don’t change with FS1 in the next couple years. I believe the UFC will sign with ESPN or another established network and do huge numbers.
