UFC on Fox 12 Prelims on FOX: 1.3 million viewers

July 29, 2014 by Jason Cruz 12 Comments

MMA Payout has learned from a Nielsen source that the UFC on Fox 12 Prelims drew an average viewership of 1.3 million.  It was the first time that Fox had aired the prelims on its network.

The network exposure helped the prelims which preceded the main card.  The last fight before the main card had Jorge Masvidal defeating Daron Cruickshank by unanimous decision.

UFC on Fox Prelims on FS1

UFC on Fox 9 – 613,000 (Dec. 2013)

UFC on Fox 10 – 713,000 (Jan. 2014)

UFC on Fox 11 – 521,000 (April 2014)

UFC on Fox Prelims on FOX

UFC on Fox 12 – 1.3 million viewers (July 2014)

Payout Perspective:

An MLB game was on FS1 at the time of the Prelims on Fox.  Certainly the UFC would prefer these fights occurring on the network rather than FS1 based on the viewership.  More than doubling your viewership (from April) for the prelims is great for the UFC but one would think it’s up to Fox if it wants to give up the time slot.  I’m not sure Fox would want to do this come December for UFC on Fox 13.

Good numbers for the prelims, yet mediocre numbers for the main card. For people that don’t know much about MMA or specifically about the UFC, they probably watched the prelims thinking THAT was the ‘UFC event’ and were most likely burnt out by the time the main card rolled in.

    Horrible numbers for FOX.

    MASH reruns would quadruple that.

    Sad.

Again, WHY/HOW did MLB get such giiiiant deals recently????? Their numbers have and continue to be horrendous. Even a growing sport like mma easily beats them (and I’m sure it would even when broadcast just as frequently). http://www.mmafighting.com/2014/7/29/5949403/lawler-brown-ufc-aveages-2-5-million-peaks-at-3-4-million-viewers

MLB has major sponsors, how many views a season does MLB have? How many views a year does UFC have? Its all about advertising dollars. Obviously advertisers feel MLB fans are a better market then UFC fans. Also MLB is regional, certain demographics and regions can be determined, MLB isnt going anywhere, MMA is new and more of a risk in their minds. MLB has big big stars that are paid millions by other sponsors that advertise, UFC barely has any big names and there sponsorship is not even comparable. If you look at MLB across the board per season its a nice view rate, also what else can guarantee steady views night after night. Plus championships and series can be big.

One MLB team alone trounces the UFC’s output.

One team alone plays in front of 40,000 plus people 81 times per year at home. They draw hundreds of thousands of viewers on their local RSNs with dozens of blue chip sponsors.

Seriously… UFCaca fans don’t have a clue outside their dogshit covered sandbox.
