UFC-Topps launch latest trading cards

June 5, 2014 by Jason Cruz 4 Comments

Trading Card Company Topps has partnered up with the UFC in launching the “2014 Topps UFC Knockout” set.  The set has added incentive for UFC collectors at it will include special giveaways and promotional items.

The biggest allure of this collector set is a chance to obtain a “Golden Ticket” insertion in select packs where fans can win a chance to train with Chael Sonnen.  He is described as a “Topps ambassador.” There will be ten Golden Tickets randomly placed into boxes of the cards.  Those ten will receive a chance to be selected to a “meet and greet” with Sonnen and the opportunity to train with him.  The other recipients of the tickets will receive a piece of training equipment signed by Sonnen.

The sets are available today.  According to the press release, the set is full of special autograph and relic cards containing fighter-worn shorts, shirts and mats.

Pricing varies but the set features “100 of the top MMA fighters” according to a couple sites selling the boxes.  A list can be found here.

Payout Perspective:

Topps has been working with the UFC since at least 2008 and this is the latest collaboration.  The “Golden Ticket” idea is an interesting means of brand activation as it gets UFC fans the opportunity to meet Sonnen.  Certainly he is a polarizing figure but a person that knows how to turn on the charm and make a good showing for the company.  There are a lot of extras in this set to get fans wanting to purchase these cards.

They did this for Khabib in his last fight

hayjive @hayjivepicks

Never seen such blatant corruption at a championship weigh in. Khamzat is one of the last to the scales and it takes all of 3 seconds for commission to shout “185” he doesn’t touch the scale at all, scale doesn’t even settle. Just gives him the weight. Insanity…

It is comical the UFC can be the most political sports organization in the history of American sports for clear aims (Ali Act, WH event) while promoting a candidate w/ the most extreme agenda in 50 years and when called to task for that help, pretend they're helpless observers.

Ali Wong's ex-husband got off easier than Russini's current husband.

Now that this Vrabel-Russini thing is full blown, will DC chill tomorrow on the #UFC weigh-in show with Sanko or no
