Couture, Shamrock star in new reality show on Spike TV

June 2, 2014 by Jason Cruz 14 Comments

Randy Couture and Frank Shamrock will be hosting “Gym Rescue,” a 3 episode series which will focus on the two using their knowledge of the MMA industry to help struggling gyms.  The show begins Sunday, August 10 at 9:00pm ET/PT according to a Spike TV release.

Via Spike TV:

MMA legends Randy Couture and Frank Shamrock use their years of expertise in the business of mixed martial arts to help turn struggling gyms into thriving enterprises.  Couture currently owns a successful chain of gyms, Xtreme Couture MMA while Shamrock runs the acclaimed Shamrock MMA.  Together this dynamic duo has the know-how and track record to help take a failing gym on the ropes and turn it into a champion.

From traditional gyms to military-style boot-camps to yoga studios, Couture and Shamrock will do whatever it takes to whip the failing gyms into shape. From re-defining the gym’s identity, to renovating the outdated workout equipment to revising their marketing strategies, no problem is too big for this team of heavyweights. The hosts will also confront the gym owners with their assessment and plan of attack. No detail will go unnoticed as they scour the facility’s procedures from top to bottom. At the end of every episode, the new gym is revealed and it’s determined if the once failing gym has become a winning success.

The series was shot on location in Florida and Colorado.

Payout Perspective:

When Randy Couture first signed on with Spike TV, this was one of the series that was talked about.  It would appear that the show will rely on Shamrock’s personality that he brought on the ill-fated “Fight Master,” which also included Couture, for this show.  Based on the press release it sounds like one of those bar, restaurant or home makeovers where an “expert” comes in and saves the establishment.  We will see if it will do better than“Fight Master.”

No, “The Contender” failed miserably and isn’t on. That is the point.

By the way, you were criticizing Bellator here, not the UFC. You are such a boxing obsessed fruitcake you just consider anything mma ufc. Do you get your welfare to work check based on how frequently you troll mma websites as a boxing fanboy?

Actually I think ALL reality shows are for morons, even bigger morons are in them. These 2 guys should just give it up already their time was years ago. Yea I know who i was criticizing but thanks for the break down. I guess they still have these guys under some contract and want to get their moneys worth. My point is I don’t watch this crap and never did and probably never would. Even 24/7/ has worked its way into being garbage.

Na, you didn’t know who you were criticizing. You probably aren’t even aware of your surroundings until Arum shows up to tell you to fetch his whatever.

This whole MMA vs. Boxing debate is pretty damn silly, it’s not that people hate MMA it’s just that there is not much going on lately — just the usual dumb ramblings of Dana White, crappy watered down cards & obnoxious reality TV shows. There is a bit of more interesting news on the boxing side, like Richard Schaefer leaving Golden Boy promotions which will surely send shockwaves throughout the entire sport of boxing. Combat Sport fan for the win.

Why/how does Randy keep getting gigs?? Don’t get me wrong, I have nooothing but the utmost respect for the guy, but he (and his weak/monotone pipes) has as much charisma as Gegard Mousasi and Jason Brilz (how’d he get roles in The Expendables!?!). Seriously, do people just keep signing him up blindly?

AK, as for his acting, you are absolutely right, he is horrible(then again, so was everyone from The Expendables, Stallone may be the worst actor in Hollywood). But a show like this and also him coaching on the reality show, make sense. He is just being himself. He knows the ins and outs of the business as much as anyone, I could see this working.

By the way, Jason Brilz is as charismatic as Daniel Day Lewis.

The only MMA fighter who has shown any ability to act is Andrei Arlovski. He did a good job in both movies he has been in.
