UFC 169 attendance, bonuses and gate

February 2, 2014 by Jason Cruz 4 Comments

MMA Junkie reports the attendance, gate and bonuses from Saturday’s UFC 169 from Newark, New Jersey.  Jamie Varner and Abel Trujillo ended up as the big winners as the sole bonus winners.

UFC 169 drew 14,308 for a gate of $1.651 million.  Attendance and gate were announced at the post-fight press conference

Jamie Varner and Abel Trujillo won the bonus for Fight of the Night and Trujillo won the KO of the Night.  Varner and Trujillo were awarded $75,000 each and Trujillo received the standard $50,000 for his KO.  There were no submissions of the night and the card had 10 of the 12 fights go to a decision.

Payout Perspective:

Varner and Trujillo’s fight was the best of the night with Al Iaquinta and Kevin Lee as a runner-up.  The night featured a record number of decisions on the card.  Notably, it appeared that the UFC had bought an extra hour of PPV time last night as it ran 20 or so minutes past the third hour.  The attendance and gate figures were below the last time the UFC made it to New Jersey as Jones-Sonnen in April 2013 at UFC 159 drew 15,227 for a gate of $2.7 million.

MMA Payout will have more on UFC 169 after the Super Bowl.

An up and down event. Varner fight was great. Varner has to be one of the most well rounded fighters in the game. But he is not mentally strong and the guy can’t catch a break.

As I was studing some fight tape going into the event. I noticed a couple of the new guys had some potential. Both Lee and Martin have a few areas to work on but they looked good.

Varner not mentally strong?…he went from WEC fame to loosing in smaller orgs to stopping Barboza Varner has to smash through all his mental, emotional, psychological self doubt just to get where he is now…yes! he cant catch a break but I think that’s cuz he is in a deeper talent pool n playing at a higher game with more pressure n lots on the line too!! When I don’t feel like running drills, plyos I watch classic training footage of Varner n Jose Pele Landis
to reboot my mindset cuz he is the epitomy of mentally tough On sidenote I think
Varner would be a an awesome addition to Bellator esp where he is now in his career!!

With a capacity of over 18,000 without floor seats, this event was pathetic as far as attendance. Those are terrible numbers and with NJ unions, production costs and hotel costs for super bowl weekend this event was in the toilet finically. Also they comp’d the dog shit out of this one, I personally know 10 people that went on a comp.
Jamie Varner lol really? thats the star of the show? Digging deep here UFC. Bad decision to even go near the super bowl, why do you have to sponge off other sports??? And apparently it didn’t work. I wonder how many millions they spent on promotion? The PPV numbers will be garbage too.

They did this for Khabib in his last fight

hayjive @hayjivepicks

Never seen such blatant corruption at a championship weigh in. Khamzat is one of the last to the scales and it takes all of 3 seconds for commission to shout “185” he doesn’t touch the scale at all, scale doesn’t even settle. Just gives him the weight. Insanity…

It is comical the UFC can be the most political sports organization in the history of American sports for clear aims (Ali Act, WH event) while promoting a candidate w/ the most extreme agenda in 50 years and when called to task for that help, pretend they're helpless observers.

Ali Wong's ex-husband got off easier than Russini's current husband.

Now that this Vrabel-Russini thing is full blown, will DC chill tomorrow on the #UFC weigh-in show with Sanko or no
