Rousey makes Forbes.com’s 30 for 30 list

January 7, 2014 by Jason Cruz 19 Comments

Forbes.com has picked UFC Bantamweight Champ Ronda Rousey as one of its 30 sports figures under the age of 30.  The list includes athetes, young executives and inventors in the industry.

Forbes.com described Rousey as “generally considered the world’s No. 1 women’s pound-for-pound MMA fighter,” it goes on, “[H]er dreaded armbar move has kept her undefeated.

Rousey joined NBA players LeBron James, Derrick Rose and Kevin Durant, track star Usain Bolt, young stat gurus and others on the list that are under the age of 30.

Payout Perspective:

Rousey’s appearance on the list shows her mainstream appeal.  Of course, if you look at the list, the rationale for picking people is suspect.  Rose, who has been out with a knee injury, made the list because he turned his ACL tear (the first one), into an online video series.  Really?  Making the list could be a product of a successful pitch by Rousey’s agents at William Morris or the UFC.   Regardless of how she got on the list, its good press for the UFC and is another accolade for Rousey.

Yea these lists are always fishy — it’s the players’ PR doing all the work and there’s obviously some kinda exchange going on. I remember last year when Mila Kunis was named Sexiest Woman in a couple publications and could not believe it. And fatty Ronda was named most desirable or something when she was on the cover of Maxim a lil while ago. Garbage.

Wow Tops, I guess that proves…nothing. Good job. You too Sampson. Slow day at the office?

Oh yeah, the UFC is did close to 6M PPVs this year plus whatever the hell Fox is paying them. How horrible for them. Dana must be crying himself to sleep every night in his mansion.

Maybe someone could figure this out, whats the rate on a 800 million dollar loan? how long is the loan? What is the breakdown on payment on ppv buys, what did the UFC gross on gates. Include the fox production budget, once again another idiot thinking the UFC just pockets what Fox gives them. Figure out the gross and deduct half for taxes. Deduct all expenses, which no one knows! How much the UFC has to pay on their loan each month or quarter and all their operating expenses, does it come close to making a profit? You can do 8 million ppv buys but if that number doesn’t cover your nut you are seriously in trouble. I have a strong feeling the UFC made ridiculous business predictions as to what they would be grossing and netting in 2013, you would have be seriously delusional to barrow 800 million on a new sport. I wonder if they are trying to refinance their loan or are they ready to pay it back on full? Can the UFC even operate at the level they are now without the financial push of 800 million bucks??If not than its all smoke and mirrors and won’t last as we know it. A private company can say anything, they can say they make a billion dollars so we really don’t know. I think jumping to risky, shit foreign markets, with crap economies and cheap citizans is a show of some kind of financial shake up and uncertainty.

Hey random dude/simpson, that “If things were good Dana wouldnt be on his knees juggling.Brock’s tangerines” comment shows just how dumb of a stay-at-home son you are. DFW’s a businessman — of COURSE he’s going to try to exploit and milk every single penny out of every asset as possible. You don’t think the Packers did the same with Favre the first five off-seasons he threatened retirement (while the last three or four times, they were prolly praying the pathetic scumbag would retire and go away). You don’t think Stern did the same with MJ? The list goes on and on and on in ALL walks of life. From the movie producers with George Lucas and Star Wars to Steven Spielberg and Indiana Jones to wrestling and Hogan/Undertaker/Austin/Sting, the list goes on and on and on.

Yes, 2014 looks like a challenging year for the UFC, but the fact that DFW is chasing Brock proves absolutely NOTHING (just like your worth to your parents and American government as a stay-at-home son).

They did this for Khabib in his last fight

hayjive @hayjivepicks

Never seen such blatant corruption at a championship weigh in. Khamzat is one of the last to the scales and it takes all of 3 seconds for commission to shout “185” he doesn’t touch the scale at all, scale doesn’t even settle. Just gives him the weight. Insanity…

It is comical the UFC can be the most political sports organization in the history of American sports for clear aims (Ali Act, WH event) while promoting a candidate w/ the most extreme agenda in 50 years and when called to task for that help, pretend they're helpless observers.

Ali Wong's ex-husband got off easier than Russini's current husband.

Now that this Vrabel-Russini thing is full blown, will DC chill tomorrow on the #UFC weigh-in show with Sanko or no
