The Sports Business Daily (subscription required) reports that Fox Sports 1 agreed to allow distributors to pay the same subscriber fee it had carrying Speed to carry the new FS1. This paved the way for the deals between FS1 and the holdout distributors.
The major holdouts: DirecTV, Dish Network and Time Warner came to agreement on Wednesday although nothing was reportedly signed. It comes out now that FS1 may have conceded the fee hike which would have seen the distributors receive a 258% fee raise from its current amount of 31 cents per subscriber per month. FS1 had proposed 80 cents per subscriber per month. According to Deadline.com, FS1 and the distributors are continuing to negotiate a more traditional deal.
It appears that the sides may have just delayed the inevitable as FS1 and the distributors will eventually have to discuss a fee increase once the Speed contracts are up with each individual distributor.
Payout Perspective:
The moral here may be to wait until the last minute. If you are Comcast, Cox or one of the other distributors that came to terms with FS1 ahead of time, how are those rates compared to distributors that held out. Certainly, 21st Century Fox (the umbrella entity under which FS1 operates) wanted to ensure that its proclamation that FS1 would be available to 90 million households happened on the day of its actual launch. This may be due in part to the fact that it did not want to seem like it misrepresented the launch to investors. Moreover, a launch without 90 million households would seem like a failure for the company.
What the concession means is that subscribers of DTV, Dish and TWC may have to go through the whole process again when the contracts for Speed ends. Most, if not all would be in 2014. At that point, FS1 hopes that its ratings will reflect its value to the distributor, which in term would mean that distributors would have to pay the higher fee.

Joke of the day from Dana
On Rousey
“There’s no way in hell. I don’t care what Hollywood offers, they ain’t paying what we’re paying. These guys, when they go out and make a movie, they don’t make what we’re paying.”

Does anyone else wonder why Tops posts on this site?
I know Jason wont say anything cause he wants all the people coming to his site that he can get but I have to assume even he reads this shit and wonders why on earth do people like Tops post here?
They never post about the topic, its always a negative attack on UFC and mma and how boxing is so much better. Its rather pathetic.
Anyway the deal is to avoid disaster by not having deals done and this way if FS1 does well then the carriers should be willing to agree to the new contracts. If it doesnt then FOx is fucked.

Tops,
If you think Rousey makes more money on her movies as she does in a fight. You are a fool. These are basically cameo appearances unlike Gina who was the lead actor in her movie. She is t paid much. There is no doubt Rousey is making at least 6 figures in every fight. Maybe a quarter of a million.

The point is that white is full of it. the way he says it you’d think he were paying millions from keeping rousey from starring in a hit movie. guy is just trying to distort reality. white is a nut.
I’m glad tops posts little quips. it allows me to see how retarded white is.

Sylvester Stallone turned down Bruce Willis’ request for $2.7 million in the Expendables 3, Rousey isn’t anywhere near the star that Bruce Willis is and would be offered a fraction of that amount.

Chris’s whining is getting even more annoying then before. He doesn’t yet realize that the various conflicting characters on this site give it a unique charm. But I guess Chris being such a pussy is part of the charm of this place too, like Cliff or Norm on Cheers. Everybody keep it up haha.
Ronda can definitely make more money in the movies over time than the UFC even if she doesn’t get big or main roles. As long as the movie is popular she will be pulling down residuals which are significant even if you are only briefly in a movie or doing stunts. As long as the movie gets played a lot, which Expendables 3 will no matter how bad it sucks, Ronda and Gina for that matter are going to make more money in Hollywood than fighting.
BrainSmasher says
Residuals are not that much. IF she isn’t a leading lady in block busters. She isn’t going to make anything. Julia Roberts is ranked 10th for the last year in actress earnings with 10 million. Rousey is never going to be in the top 50 of this list. She isn’t an actor. Her only appeal is her fighting. She isn’t that good looking. So when she is done fighting or loses. Her chances of big roles are gone. Her best chance is to keep fighting and winning and grab as many acting jobs as she can. IF she does both her success in both will rise. No acting job she will never get will pay her as much as the UFC is and will to fight. IF she can break into the top 10 actress pay. It would be tought for the UFC to match. But even then that would mean she is a huge acting star and would make her fights huge and sell more PPVs than anyone else. So then the UFC could probably match huge movie offers. But without fighting her movie career is over. In fact I have seen Gina in anything since she had that first lead role. When Rousey loses these roles will go to the next female champion as long as they aren’t hideous.

It’s a 158% fee raise, not 258%.
duck says
Like her mentor Gene LeBell, she won’t be the star, she will be a glorified stunt double taking beatings off the actual big time actresses.
She can still make a good living doing that and she could probably do it a lot longer than she would as an elite fighter.

Dana needs to keep his stupid mouth shut, why rain on someone’s parade? Rhonda and most people would make a movie for free, its not about the money yet, there is a very small chance, very small, that she can have some sort of carrier in film. Its more about getting expositor and the experience. Dana is a jerk off, god forbid someone gets a bit of lime light without his stupid name and company behind it. A selfish self centered jerk, that is no way to be a president of any serious organization., he is not alone. Rhonda is most likely getting industry minimum with a few extras. Once the UFC is long gone and no one is talking about her fights she will still be immortalized in a film. Grab it while you can.
