Fox Sports 2 launches Saturday replacing Fuel TV

August 12, 2013 by Jason Cruz 12 Comments

Fox Sports 2 will launch on Saturday, August 17th, the same day as Fox Sports 1 according to multiple sources.  FS2 will replace Fuel TV and will carry UFC content as well.

With only Comcast as the sole major distributor with a current agreement with Fox Sports 1, Fox Sports 2 will be available to those that already have Fuel TV.  According to SNL Kagan, distributors will pay 15 cents per subscriber for FS2 which is about the same for Fuel TV.

Payout Perspective:

While it’s expected that a bulk of UFC content will be on Fox Sports 1, there will be additional UFC programming on FS2.  It may serve as a channel that will air the weigh-ins and pre/post-fight programming.  We shall see how Fox splits the UFC content.  Frankly, it would have been nice if Fox kept all live UFC content on one channel to minimize channel confusion.  As for FS1, we will wait and see if agreements occur before Saturday.

And what if you have Comcast but not Fuel? I know I’m getting FS1 but will I get FS2?

UFC Fight Night 30 from Manchester (Oct. 26) is said to be broadcasted primarily on Fox Sports 2. So the confusion about channels (which event is where) will probably continue one way or another.

In several European countries there is Sky Sports 1-4, Sky Sports F1 (commercial free during races that lays dormant when F1 races aren’t on) and Sky Sports News, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they add more channels.

I think the European & Asian fight nights will be on FS2 and the Wednesday fight nights and PPV prelims will be on FS1, Wednesday will also have UFC Tonight, Countdown specials and the Ultimate Fighter etc all on FS1.

@Chris: Comcast subscribers will get FS1 but not FS2 (f/k/a Fuel TV) while the rest of us will get FS2 but not FS1. Confusion reigns.

Jason, Chris: Some markets have Comcast with Fuel TV, others don’t yet. They signed a deal a while back, but roll out process has either taken forever or those markets don’t care.
