MMA Junkie reports that the anticipated Anderson Silva rematch versus Chris Weidman will take place on December 28th with Ronda Rousey versus Miesha Tate as the co-main event. Dana White made the announcement on ESPN’s Sportscenter.
Although White threw out the idea that Silva-Weidman II should happen at Cowboys Stadium. The idea of having it headline the Super Bowl weekend in New Jersey, a homecoming for Weidman, was also an idea for the fight. But, the UFC chose to put it back in Vegas at the end of the year.
With Silva-Weidman II set for the same place as the first fight, Zuffa will get a show with the potential to do big PPV numbers.
Payout Perspective:
The move to place the fight on the same show as Rousey-Tate will help the UFC end 2013 with a ratings boost. It will be one of its biggest shows since UFC 129. Everyone will want to see if Weidman can defend his title in the rematch. In the co-main event, Rousey and Tate will get together in a heated grudge match. The placement of the show is smart as it protects Rousey-Tate from the potential of a low PPV buy rate.
Despite the fact that the UFC will be an anchor on FS1, does anyone think it interesting that White made the announcement on ESPN?
The announcement tops off a Friday and Saturday where the UFC announced TJ Grant being replaced by Anthony Pettis. Thus, a rematch of the WEC’s last fight ever and “Showtime Kick” highlights as Pettis challenges Benson Henderson in his hometown of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Also, Michael Bisping gets another shot to prove to the UFC he deserves a title shot against the resurgent Mark Munoz on October 26th.

might as well watch that one

It is HILARIOUS how the wrestling/mma media deem it as a mega show due to Rousey-Tate 2 being on it. It is a match that Dana White himself would deem as non-worthy just 18 months ago.
BrainSmasher says
Now all you excuse makers who can’t deal with the outcome of the fight. Will see why Silva was crying after the fight and was devastated.
BrainSmasher says
Samson with his usual home schooled inbred perspective. Rousey’s PPV buys her first UFC event makes this worthy. The meadia shw has got since and fighting a better and more marketable and marketed opponent makes it even more worthy. At one time you could say the same about Mike Tyson. “18 months ago bla bla bla”. It doesn’t matter what the case was 18 months ago. Te fact is she is a big deal now as is this rematch with Weidman/Silva.

Dana changes his opinion too many times….if your with UFC your OK when your not your a nobody…..he is not a consistent person…
BrainSmasher says
That sounds pretty consistent to me. Just because you don’t like it doesn’t make it consistent. HE has always been the same way the 12 years he has ran the UFC.
aintitthetruth says
I do recall white saying that women will never fight in the ufc . White followed the money even if it is still a sideshow. Look for zuffa to buy and bury invicta to form the bulk of it’s womens divisions.

Zou, who’s easily the most successful amateur boxer from China after bagging three world championships and two Olympic gold medals at light flyweight category, is reportedly set to pocket around $500,000 for either four-round and six-round contest in the undercard of Manny Pacquiao-Brandon Rios clash at Venetian Macao in Macau, China in November…..
WOW a 110lbs boxer gets half a mil in his 2nd fight!!!
Cain got 400k at heavyweight lol
And now Dana announces the biggest fight in UFC history……how but the fight purse? Hahaha

I love the UFC pay scale. The best thing about the UFC. I can tell by your jealousy that you agree! You see Boxings pay tear itself apart. So you become obsessed with UFC pay. Lol at yOu braging about the pay of these con men and thieves. Street thugs who rob their fans.
Diego says
BS
Boxing is not tearing itself apart. Manny, Matthyse, GGG, Mayweather, Klitschko, these are not con-men and thieves. They are top athletes earning top dollar. Now their promoters on the other hand…
Why does that make you so jealous? Why can’t you stand it when professionals engaging in a very dangerous and short-lived career make millions?
Sampson Simpson says
He gets jealous because he is going through menopause.
There are literally over 100 boxers who earn over $1 million annually. In MMA I’d guesstimate MAYBE 3.
Machiel Van says
This will be a big fight. The wait will be maddening.

Sampson, out of the only UFC fighter, whose contract is on record, Alistair Overeem made over a million for his loss to Big Foot.
http://espn.go.com/mma/story/_/id/7402908/alistair-overeem-former-manager-files-suit-breach-contract
“bout fee” of $264,285
$2 pay-per-view bonus per viewer, “for all revenues received by UFC-Zuffa for telecast of the Lesnar fight in the United States, Canada or over the internet in excess of $500,000.”
the card apparently did 330,000 buys meaning he picked up more than $600,000
“Terms of the contract also guarantee Zuffa would pay Overeem $1 million spread out evenly over the first three fights of his deal”
there’s another $330,000 there.
He would have gotten $121,428 “win bonus” but he got smashed.
Tops of says
Yup weidmans 48k would make everybody jealous….
duck says
With his contract up he will most likely sign a new deal that probably looks similar or better than the one Overeem has there, the New Year card should do over a million buys so he should get over $2 million just on PPV points.

Promoters make nothing compared to the boxers. especially at the top end. Many of those events lose money for Showtime. That is not a good thing and the blame falls on the over paid boxer.
When has a top boxer left a major city? Why doesn’t a top fighter take the hit at the gate and leave Vegas, LA, etc? Because they will never give $1 to please the fans that made them or strengthen the sport. Because they wont be around to reap the reward. The UFC does these things.
When has a boxer ever spent the money to take boxing to a country it isn’t big in and lost millions to grow it there? Never! The UFC does this.
When has boxers come together to have an expo where all the fans can come and have fun and meet them? Never! The UFC does this.
When has boxers used their money to build and promoter ALL fighters at every level except just themselves? Never! The UFC does this.
When was the last Champion who fought 4 times in a year like Jones did when he won the belt? What fight in the UFC have we never been able to see? None1 We get every fight because the UFC makes it happen. We get stacked cards unlike boxing because the UFC makes it happen.
So, as you can see. The UFC brand is not only important to the fighters and Zuffa. But the entire sport and its fans depend on it. It assures we get everything we want as fans and consumers. It assures the sport keeps growing rapidly.
I don’t mind fighters making money. What I do mind is expecting excessive amounts of money from a sport that hasn’t reached a secure spot like the NFL, NBA, etc who still require lots of money to make the sport global. The UFC is still dumping money for lobbying efforts, taking losses in the UK and many other countries. They haven’t even started on China and many other large nations yet. If fighters start making more or get a % of revenue like other leagues. All this will stop. Just like it has in the NFL and the NBA. They have all but stopped trying to expand their brand past the US. They are no longer in position to dump money into it and the players will not make that sacrifice.
So like I said. I don’t mind players making a lot of money. Even millions. What I don’t like is the “Every last dime I can get” attitude that causes all the problems we see in professional sports. Players are milking their teams for huge contracts and wonder why there isn’t enough salary cap room to put together a winning team. They would rather get that extra $1 and be on a losing team rather than take a cut and be a winner. This mentality is also why they had to put salary caps in for Vets, rookies, and teams.
To many athletes are killing the tree when they collect their fruit. When there is no need. If they would not be selfish and greedy. There would be fruit for everyone for many generations.
