Mayweather fight to be shown in theaters

March 27, 2013 by Jason Cruz 12 Comments

Bad Left Hook reports that the Floyd Mayweather-Roberto Guerrero fight on Cinco de Mayo weekend will be aired in theatres.  Fathom Events, the same company that works with the UFC in theatre events, will be working with Golden Boy to put the fight in this weekend.

After a year off, Floyd Mayweather returns to the ring and Golden Boy will take advantage of this by introducing an additional revenue stream: movie theaters.

Payout Perspective:

The move makes sense considering the hefty price to pay for one fight.  Based on the trend, it’s likely that Mayweather-Guerrero will be $69.99 (in HD) for most viewers.  Tickets for the movie theatre will be $18.00 a piece.   With the rising prices of PPV, it will be interesting to see how many people will take advantage of this option.

If you go with a friend, that’s $36 for tickets and $30 for two sodas and two hot dogs. That’s basically the same price unless you’re smuggling some beers and jerky into the theater.

Has anyone gone to watch boxing or UFC at a theater? Is it a good vibe? I can’t watch at sports bars because it’s always a shitshow full of amateur analysis, but maybe theaters are more like the live event.

How can anyone watch this? FMJ goes out and find the guy least likely to beat him and sells it to you for $70. Then people chomp at the bit to convience themselves it is a compeitive match and hand over all their money to a con man. This isnt even a compeition. Its a meaningless demonstration.

Well, being that Mayweather fights annihilate anything the UFC has ever put out, there has to be a lot of people tuning in.

Lots of old people who dont know how to use the internet and minds havent developed enough to see anything that isnt one dimensional. I mean what other choice do they have? Pay $70 for the second best boxer to fight a bum?.

Guerrero isn’t a bum. I agree that Canelo would have been a tougher matchup (and hence he didn’t get the shot), but that doesn’t mean that Guerrero is a can.

Guerrero arrested in New York city for gun possession. Hopefully this will not interfere with the scheduled matchup.
