Cormier signs with Cage Fighter

January 6, 2013 by Jason Cruz 1 Comment

Strikeforce Heavyweight Daniel Cormier, has signed with the Cage Fighter Athletic Brand.  The surprising winner of the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix, Cormier should have a shirt, shorts and banner representing the brand on Saturday night.

Undefeated in MMA, the former Olympic wrestler was sponsored by Cage Fighter in 2008.  According to the Cage Fighter web site, Lutte Licensing Group (which owns Cage Fighter) signed an exclusive licensing, sponsoring and marketing agreement with Cormier.

Payout Perspective:

Its a multi-fight deal for Cormier and we should see him wearing the “Embrace the Grind” motto for the brand Saturday night in the last Strikeforce event ever.  Cormier appears to be an affable guy (based on watching “The Fight Factory”) with a good background in amateur wrestling and should be an asset for the brand.  Depending on where he lands in weight class, he could be a force in the UFC.

Glad to see DC raking in some green.

DC is a natural–popular personally, and stylistically with fans.

I believe he has a good chance of becoming the next LHW champ. With plenty of time–and proper dieting–he could drop to 205 pretty easily for weigh-ins.

As long as Cain is HW champ–DC does not have that many fights in HW before he paints himself into a corner. My bet is he is going for the 205 belt.

I know, I know. Many fans are convinced Jon Jones is invincible–but DC has world class wrestling and he hits harder than Jones in my opinion.

At the very least he will give Jones more of a run for his money than any fighter has so far.

People who do martial arts will laugh and tell me it’s fake. But then I ask them why they do martial arts? 😉

I should point out that according to those at TKO that the ESPN/MVPW boxing deal is a revenue sharing agreement similar to the original AEW/Turner deal in 2019 and not a full paying media rights deal which Top Rank had and wasn't renewed.
