On Thursday night, Spike TV’s new MMA show, “MMA Uncensored Live”, made a successful debut drawing an average of 547,000 viewers to the network.

The debut airing on Spike TV earned a 0.4 HH rating, a 0.5 in M18-34, and a 0.62 in the M25-34. Overall, MMA Uncensored Live drew an average of 547,000 viewers. Comparing timeslots, MMA Uncensored Live was up +41% in M18-34 and +51% in M25-34 compared to last year.

MMA Uncensored Live focused on UFC 144’s return to Japan, where hosts Craig Carton, Nate Quarry and Mike Straka discussed the fall of one of MMA’s most famous promotions of all time, PRIDE Fighting Championships.  Honorary guests for the evening were Dan Henderson and “mystery guest” Nick Diaz.

It will be interesting to track the ratings for this type of show on Spike.

They are transitioning Bellator into the mix very well it seems.

Not sure what to use as a reference point but that sounds like a good number. Positive news for SPIKE.

547,000 viewers is a good number on a channel that has 100 million viewers? Yet when a Zuffa ppv does 325,000 buys or when Strikeforce does 325,000 viewers on a channel with 15 million subscribers it’s a sign of them over saturating the market?

The lead in audience from TNA IMPACT really helped the numbers here.As long as the TNA audience crosses over weekly MMA Uncensored Live will continue to do good numbers.Viacom is building its MMA audience through TNA Wrestling with Bellator stars and Bjorn Rebney appearing on TNA IMPACT.

The show was passable entertainment for an MMA fan, I will continue to watch when I remember to DVR. The main host (NYC radio guy) needs to learn proper interviewing technique, he was ok as a host but not as far as interviews. I liked the segments, especially on Japan. I know Diaz is a big draw, but they had to know he could not talk about his suspension. Marquardt did a good job but seems to be trying a little too hard to create a conflict, but it is TV.

Very inexpensive show to produce, so it will be profitable and focus will shift to Bellatore to build that brand. NOthing wrong with that.

This wasn’t a live event or an MMA program which shows fight clips or taped fights… it was an MMA talk show. Drawing 547,000 viewers is a pretty good number IMO. We’ll see how the following shows do. The first show didn’t get many rave reviews beyond the great but short PRIDE piece.
