Milwaukee to honor Showtime Pettis

January 12, 2011 by Jason Cruz 1 Comment

The UFC announced that on Thursday lightweight contender, Anthony “Showtime” Pettis, will receive an official proclamation by the city of Milwaukee. The Mayor of Milwaukee will be on hand to give the official proclamation to Pettis.

Via UFC press release:

“…his work in the community, have earned the 23-year-old an official proclamation from his hometown of the city of Milwaukee, Wisc.”

“This is an amazing feeling,” Pettis said. “It’s been a crazy year. I’ve won a world title, been featured on MTV and SportsCenter and threw out the first pitch at the Milwaukee Brewers game. I never imagined myself being in this position. I’m really thankful that Mayor Tom Barrett and the city of Milwaukee have chosen to honor me. Milwaukee means so much to me and I’m proud to represent it every time I compete.”

Payout Perspective:

Its unclear what kind of proclamation Pettis will receive; I would think that Milwaukee could give him a key to the city (kidding). This is good mainstream press and a nice photo op for Pettis. The honor probably means a lot to Pettis since its his hometown. If you watched his episode on MTV’s “The World of Jenks,” Pettis had a tough upbringing but found martial arts and turned his life around. The recognition gives Pettis some media attention and keeps his name relevant in the news. Its nice to see Pettis get a push in some unexpected downtime due to Edgar/Maynard III.
