Mayweather-McGregor will be shown in movie theatres

July 25, 2017 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Fathom Events and Mayweather Promotions announced that the two have partnered to put the Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor fight in movie theaters.  The event appears to have a list price of $40 per ticket not including tax.

The PPV is $99.99 in HD, but for those not willing to shell out the money they can watch the undercard and main event in a local movie theatre.  The list price is less than half the PPV price.

Still, it is higher than the usual price ($30) for UFC PPVs that are shown in movie theatres.

The fight is set for Saturday, August 26th

Payout Perspective:

Prices may vary but it’s likely that the $40 price is the suggested price point.  One might infer that since Mayweather Promotions was involved in this announcement and not Conor McGregor’s promotion or the UFC, that Mayweather will get the cut of this revenue.  It’s unusual for live events to get much traction in movie theatres, but due to the $100 PPV price and huge marketing push, this could be different.

I should point out that according to those at TKO that the ESPN/MVPW boxing deal is a revenue sharing agreement similar to the original AEW/Turner deal in 2019 and not a full paying media rights deal which Top Rank had and wasn't renewed.
