UFC 190 Prelims draw 1.3M viewers

August 4, 2015

The UFC 190 Prelims on FS1 drew an average viewership of 1.3 million viewers per Sports TV Ratings.  The event airing from 5-7pm PT on Saturday night was the second-highest average for the UFC Prelims in 2015.

UPDATED 08/05/15:  According to Nielsen sources, the event peaked at 1,599,000 viewers in the 9:15-9:30pm ET quarter hour.  Notably, before the final fight on the prelim card.  Saturday’s prelims were up 13% (1.04 vs. .092) and 10% for the average audience from the UFC 184 prelims.

In addition, program supporting UFC 190 were up as well.  The prefight show drew 518,000 viewers making it the 3rd most watched PPV prefight in FS1 history.  The postfight show, which was later due to the PPV, drew 438,000 viewers making it the 2nd most-watched UFC postfight show on FS1.

Also of note, on Friday a special (10pm ET) UFC Tonight focusing on Rousey drew 396,000 viewers which was the most-watch edition of UFC Tonight ever.

A special 90 minute UFC weigh-ins on Friday on FS1 (4:30pm-6pm ET) drew 101,000 viewers per Sports TV Ratings.

The Prelims featured Damian Maia as he submitted Neil Magny.  The event preceded the UFC 190 PPV and was the highest rated sports event on cable on Saturday beating PBC on ESPN and WSOF.  The event brought the 2015 average for UFC PPV Prelims up to 1,019,000.

UFC 185 1,003,000
UFC 186 710,000

Payout Perspective:

While UFC 189’s less than stellar ratings did not matter when considering that the unofficial PPV buy rate for last month’s event was 1 million, this month’s prelim rating reflects the fact that this event had buzz based on Ronda Rousey.  Let’s face it, Damian Maia is not a fighter 1.3 million fans would tune in for and most non-North American events do not fare well.  If we are to determine that this is an indicator of a PPV buy rate, we might assume a number rivaling UFC 189.

I hate to say it but the Weidman main events may have held back Rousey as a draw, the media had to talk about the main event when they probably would have got more hits covering Ronda.

Duck that’s not accurate- keep in mind, back then she was only drawing in the 300-400k range as a headliner.

all in all Rousey is a legit draw now. Rousey Vs Cyborg would be massive.

When the numbers officially come out from Meltzer, a lot of people on this site- the people who were saying how the UFC’s ppv is dead in 2014 and would never turn around, are going to have to eat some serious crow.

    -Jack
    -Chang
    -Leon
    -Logical
    -Sal
    -Fightbusiness
    -Sampson and his 100 aliases
    -Tops
    -The Gayest
    -and many more

This could arguably be their biggest year financially from a ppv standpoint and if you factor in all of their revenue streams, this is literally the biggest year for them in the history of the company. They will have to make some concessions in the future(which in my opinion are good), due to the lawsuit they are dealing with, but the future of mma is very big.

Again, facts do not register in Sal’s brain. He works off of delusions.

Rousey has 2 more fights if that. The entire ufc and wmma is one person hahahahaha.

What’s even worse for the anti MMA trolls than Rousey getting big numbers in this fight. Is the fact that she will fight again this year and Bethe is probably the worst opponent she could have faced because she isn’t a personality and doesn’t speak English. She got a ton of press after this fight which will blow up her sale even more. Add to it the huge press she will get going into her next fight. It is a snow ball effect and she could easy pass FMJ as the biggest draw in sports combat.

Thats why the fight was in Brazil dumb ass. Where they dont have to report a gate and can give the house away. Even Rousey is a fraud number wise, its been proven before with her gates. Its a joke. Nice try and glad to see all the girls rallying around a one women sport where most men cant draw shit bahahahahhahaha Look how far mma has fallen!!!! bahahahahaha

Sal, what the hell is wrong with you?

BS, add to that the fact that they fought in Brazil, where shows have not traditionally done well in PPVs. If she’s doing anything over 500k in Brazil, that’s a very good sign for her future PPV earnings.

Never trust the figures and statistics coming from a company that is known to hype its stuff.

I think the premlins numbers have a lot to do with the newbies tuning in early with their girlfriends thinking that Ronda was gonna fight soon.

That’s not guaranteed to translate to sales.

No one believes this is going to sell more than 189, yet the premlins did better.

No one other than Dave Meltzer, Jeremy Blotter and anyone else who has seen the preliminary numbers coming in. Haha.

More success for the Sweater Science.
    A great time for MMA.

The searches for Rousey blow away Connor. ESPN was all over it and they only cover Mma when the public jumps on a fight. ESPN is retroactive with MMA they always piggyback off what is trending. The fact they went ape about Rousey shows a ton of people cared and bought the fight.

I saw a report that said her Twitter account got 1.7 million subscribers in just the last week! 260,000 on Saturday and 600,000 on Sunday. With so many people interested and it being trendy. A curtain percent of everyone interested is going to buy the fight above and beyond her normal sales. How many we don’t know. Could be between 500,000 buys and 1.5 million. We have to wait and see. One thing is for sure. With so many new people caring about her before and after this fight. It means big things for her next fights! Game changer!

Got something to say?
