UFC made last ditch effort to sign Lesnar

March 26, 2015

As a follow-up to Brock Lesnar’s announcement that he will stay in the WWE, he told the AP that he was offered “10 times” what he was making earlier in his MMA career.  Then, the UFC offered was personally increased by Lorenzo Fertitta on the day Lesnar made the announcement that he would stick with WWE.

Lesnar announced on ESPN on Monday that he would return to the WWE.  The AP story adds the detail that the WWE contract is for 3 years.  According to the story, Lesnar remained in contact with the UFC about his decision to stay.  Fertitta increased the UFC offer twofold to entice the former UFC Heavyweight champion to comeback.  Although enticing, Lesnar decided to stick with professional wrestling.

Payout Perspective:

What are we to make of the UFC’s last ditch effort to sign Brock Lesnar?  Does it say something about the need for PPV “needle movers”?  Does the UFC think its Heavyweight division lacks a marketable fighter?  It’s clear that the UFC recognizes the PPV earning potential of Lesnar and believes that even in his late 30s, his health history and on the downside of his career, he can still draw.  The offer by Fertitta appears to have occurred after Lesnar signed with the WWE which would have made it a very interesting scenario if Lesnar changed his mind and decided to sign with the UFC.

What are we to make of the UFC’s last ditch effort to sign Brock Lesnar?

Brock’s name on a card guarantees buyrate and much needed media publicity for the UFC. Although the UFC has flirted with the 3/4 million buy rate twice this year, the ability to sell 1 million buys appears to be out of reach without a big name main event fighter like Brock. Business is definitely turning around for them in 2015, but with UFC 200 likely to be held second quarter 2016, potentially at MSG, what MMA fighter would you as a promoter want on that card.

Does it say something about the need for PPV “needle movers”?

UFC is clearly in a rebound year, however, looking down the horizon doesn’t really present much for “needle movers”. We all know what Jones is capable of with respect to buyrate and that won’t change much. We have also seen what I would suspect to be the upper tier for viewers with respect to Ronda. I don’t believe that a Rhonda vs. Cyborg fight will come close to a 1 million buy rate. The interest would not be there, even with main stream media attention. So, who are the “needle movers” other than some older stars and the likes of Jones and Rhonda? Maybe Conor will be the guy, but he has to get through Aldo first.

Does the UFC think its Heavyweight division lacks a marketable fighter?

I think the answer to that is pretty obvious. As does Boxing.

  3. Pink Pig on March 26th, 2015 9:56 AM

Boxing has a heavyweight by the name of Wladimir Klitschko.

He made Forbes top 100 athlete earners by the way lol

  4. d on March 26th, 2015 10:33 AM

Hahahahaha. Boxing has a hw named Wladimir Klitschko…..who hasn’t fought on ppv in the US…EVER!

He obtains large sums of wealth through charity purses and major endorsement deals, not through his gates/tv contracts.

He also hasn’t had a relevant fight arguably ever. His opponents are a joke. No one in the US even knows he still fights based on his horrible tv ratings here. Not to mention he is another example of how nearly every boxing star is in their mid to late 30s about to retire.

During his reign, the UFC has had millions of ppv buys from their hws alone. Meanwhile, Klitschko was turning down fights from contenders unless they agreed to give up part of their Skytv ppv points to him. HAHAHAHA!!! That’s right, he was begging for his opponents measly ppv points. HAHAHAHA!!

That is arguably the most comical argument I ever heard. HW Boxing has been dead for over a decade.

  5. saldathief on March 26th, 2015 11:17 AM

Actually D you are a complete idiot, only american heavyweight boxing has been dead. Its huge in europe, and we have a MSG heavyweight fight coming up so thats something to say. PPV is the entire business for the UFC, all the other crap is to boost PPV sales. Its so obvious and we still have morons claiming that the ufc doesn’t really care about ppv because of other revenue, completely idiotic. Look how desperate they were trying to get a guy who is 38 with a 5 and 3 record. hahahaha A 5 and 3 record is what sells? Pathetic!

  6. tops E on March 26th, 2015 12:13 PM

Did dw and frtita beg brock? HahahahahHHa….pathetic..desperate

  7. d on March 26th, 2015 1:24 PM

Actually Sal, you are fucking retarded, once again. American hw boxing is by far the biggest market. Anything else is a joke. MSG HW fight coming up? HAHA!! Which no one gives a shit about and no one will pay for.

Since you are an idiot that doesn’t read what S & P had to say about Zuffa, is that ppv is actually, less than half of what they bring in revenue wise. No one ever claimed they don’t care about ppv, you are confusing mma with boxing. Boxing ppv has been in the shitter for years now.

Saldaqueef again, heightening his status of retard.

  8. Diego on March 26th, 2015 2:27 PM

” PPV is the entire business for the UFC, all the other crap is to boost PPV sales.”

Not true. $100M per year from Fox is not a bad payout.

  9. Diego on March 26th, 2015 2:29 PM

I think it’s a good thing that the UFC didn’t sign Brock. It would have been an expensive sugar rush and it would not have lasted. He would have pasted some old fighters like Mir or Nogueira and would have been crushed by anyone decent.

  10. tops E on March 26th, 2015 3:02 PM

Did dw fertita kneel to brock? Hahahaha…what an embarrassment…..please please sign with us…wait il double the money hahaha..thats desperate….and on Brock side he’ll think they were attempting to pay me half of what they could….ufc has reached its peak and on the decline

  11. Saldathief on March 26th, 2015 4:19 PM

Once again another idiot spouting off the 100 million fox deal. Anyone that knows tv deals is smart enough to know thats a gross number not a net!!!. D please post where s n p says zuffa ppv is less then 50% of its Revenue. Maybe after they lost 40% of their existing bussiness it is. They have shit sponsors, dwindling tv ratings, dwindling ticket sales. Shit tuf numbers and their expansion is a fucking joke! Hahaha btw just for the beer rights at maypac its over 5 million. And any boxing fight at msg will be a good one. Just because the ufc is still dreaming about msg dont be upset hahaha. The entire ufc model is based on ppv. Its the only thing they have had any success in you complete retards!!!

  12. JF on March 26th, 2015 6:24 PM

In 2013, UFC’s PPV account for 58% of their revenue. 42% is derived from TV, sponsorships, merchandizing etc.

    source: https://torrentfreak.com/police-arrest-worlds-most-prolific-ufc-and-wwe-pirate-150318/

It seems likely that the Fox TV deal has pushed those revenues above 50%.

  13. Saldathief on March 26th, 2015 6:41 PM

Bahaha where did you find that piece of shit article bahahahha I wouldn’t wipe D’s ass with that worthless unreliable bit of fiction. Another google expert. Do the math you idiots. add up ppv numbers and that revenue and there is now way the ufc has even a fraction of those numbers from non ppv business. And unless we see a finacial statement its all complete bullshit. Btw the entire fox deal was sold and estimated on lesner being part of it and then he walked away from the ufc. Please list all the big financial deals the ufc has with numbers that are non ppv income. Its small compared

  14. Saldathief on March 26th, 2015 6:44 PM

“Both companies’ revenues rely heavily on TV-focused content. In 2013, UFC-parent company Zuffa’s revenues were split roughly 58% for PPV events and ticket sales with the remaining 42% derived from TV, sponsorships and various distribution agreements.”. Says who??? And where did this information come from and what backs it up?

  15. d on March 26th, 2015 8:21 PM

Hahahaha. Sal, gets proven wrong. He goes on retarded tirade where no one can comprehend his bullshit, then he goes back to obsessing about Indian boys. This dirty fuck needs to change his diapers. HAHAHAHAHA!!

  16. d on March 26th, 2015 8:28 PM

Hey shit smelling turd Saldaqueef- eat this:

“S&P is approximating 55% of total revenue is event-based (majority which depends on PPV buys and ticket sales). The remaining 45% of total revenue is estimated to be sourced from live and taped TV broadcasts, sponsorship, merchandising, licensing, and content distribution agreements.”

    http://mmapayout.com/2012/06/zuffa-maintains-bb-credit-rating-after-50m-add-on/

    Spin that one idiot.

  17. saldathief on March 26th, 2015 10:03 PM

BAHAAHA first it says approximating bahahah that means they have no idea sperm face! Its un substantiated and is completely unprovable. Distribution to what? and to where? bahahaha Brazil? Russia? Poland? hahaha thats a joke, taped tv?? are you serious, ,mercchdising, chump change, Licensing??? to whom and for what?? Sponsors???? smoke another cock! even added up its piss compared to ppv.
I say 75% ppv, plus you retards have no clue the ufc promotional expenses that are NOT paying off!!!! FYI MayPac is sold out at 15,000 for a gate of 74 mil add it up hahaha. no comps hahaha D googles his own articles hahahah

  18. saldathief on March 26th, 2015 10:06 PM

The UFC tries to look like a serious diverse multi income company, its mostly bullshit!!!! hahaha Fox wanted Lesner back and zuffa couldnt deliver hahahah

  19. d on March 26th, 2015 10:37 PM

Saldaqueef, you are a professional retard as I pointed out. Here is your problem fuck face- their books have been analyzed by Moody’s you COLOSSAL FUCKING MORON!!!!!!!!

Get Bob Arum’s crusty dick your of your mouth you retarded, welfare to work boxing troll who shits in diapers and can’t get out of a wheel chair.

Its always amusing when actual evidence is presented that proves your dumbass wrong, and you then challenge very reliable sources with your own delusional claims that are backed by no one and zero statistics other than the delusions that run through your retarded brain.

  20. d on March 26th, 2015 10:43 PM

By the way, FOX wanted Lesnar back??? HAHAHAHA!! LESNAR has never, nor would ever fight on FOX, cum stain. HAHAHA!

  21. saldathief on March 27th, 2015 9:59 AM

hey idiot a lot of the Fox deal was negotiated with lesner numbers in mind, Fox wanted lesner ratings, Lesner was a commentator on the first Fox show. Oh I forgot you weren’t a paid fan back then bahahahaha Anyhow bye bye lesner and bye bye ufc million plus ppv hahahaha oh wait the ufc makes 100’s of millions on T shirts and licensing deals hahaha funny I dont see people wearing any UFC merch anymore hahahah

  22. saldathief on March 27th, 2015 10:16 AM

Yea Dana never mentioned Brock at any of the Fox meetings, lol he never mentioned doing a reality show on fox with Brock ether bahahahah If Dana could have wore a Brock mask at the meetings he would have. bahahahah You are such an idiot!!

  23. Diego on March 27th, 2015 11:37 AM

“Once again another idiot spouting off the 100 million fox deal.”

That’s right. I’m an idiot. $100M gross is nothing. It’s chump change. I wouldn’t piss on a pile of $100M if it was on fire. Jackass.

” first it says approximating bahahah that means they have no idea”

S&P has no idea? They have a better idea than you. I would take their estimates – inaccurate though they might be – over any of the #s you regularly pull from your ass.

  24. saldathief on March 27th, 2015 2:49 PM

I’m am still waiting to see the actual S&P report not some quote on an mma website! where is it, when was it written and where did they get the numbers? Here is the truth, all the information that sS&p got was from zuffa themselves, its fiction. Zuffa is a private company genius, they can say whatever they want.. NEXT!! 100 million gross when you produce dozens of shows and pay 100’s of people isn’t a lot at the end of the year, if you think that is comparable to ppv revenue you need to go back to school!

  25. d on March 27th, 2015 8:30 PM

The rest of your ramblings are once again incoherent. I proved you wrong with S & P. You are a fucking idiot who is completely shameless.

First off, you are such a moron who can’t see when he completely contradicts himself. You are waiting on an S & P report, then you are implying it wouldn’t matter anyway because it was written from Zuffa. The real report that is interesting to me after reading this conversation is your team of psychiatrists full analysis of your delusions, you freak.

Also, to destroy your bullshit argument once again, Zuffa is a private company….THAT HAD TO OPEN THEIR BOOKS TO SECURE THE LOAN YOU DUMB FUCK!!!! Do you think they are going to acquire that type of loan without someone analyzing their revenue you stupid shit? Oh wait, I forgot, you did usher at your high school’s ballet so you know a ton about securing massive loans.

You just embarrass yourself every time you comment on here.

  27. saldathief on March 27th, 2015 9:52 PM

Where is this so called report? Also when Zuffa opened their books its highly confidential you shit for brain moron. Once again D cant google and prove his fake facts hahaha I called you morons out and you have nothing to back up any numbers, because they don’t exist , its privileged information you google retard! And they put up their casino’s for the loan you complete inept turd face! hahahah keep trying son you got nothing and never will because its a house of bullshit!!!!

Here is Dana lying like a fat sack of shit, trying to stay relevant and important due to not getting Lesner and all the big money Maypac news hahahah watch and try not to laugh hahahah

  29. d on March 27th, 2015 10:19 PM

Yes, to me and you it is confidential fuck face, but not to the people appraising their credit ratings you stupid fuck!!! I listed the reports findings based on mmapayouts statements. Are you accusing them of fabricating that information, you jizz stain? Who cares what they put up for the loan idiot? The fact remains their books were analyzed retard.

Do you even know what you are saying half of the time, idiot? You dont’ know shit. You are a total abortion that should have happened boxing paid in food stamps troll. Everyone that reads your bullshit laughs at how idiotic it is.

Sal’s claim to fame……”shitting in the pull up diaper”.

  31. saldathief on March 27th, 2015 11:13 PM

The fact is you have no information to base anything on !! Anything quoted is bullshit!!! hahahaha other then the lender, the ufc and the irs, no one knows what the real numbers are you fool. hahaha google retard! your reasoning ls laughable, anyone can make up anything and put in online and a clueless paid blogger like you will run with it. I could be totally off but one number we kind of have is ufc ppv revenue and gates and most gates lose money. It dwarfs any other income the ufc pretends to have. For gods sake even the fight purses for all the fox shows is over 34 million, thats not even taking into consideration all the other expenses putting on a show, plus all your imaginary locker room bonuses hahah. I could chip away the fox numbers down to 20 million at most when all is paid!!!!! You clowns have no fucking idea what kind of expenses a promotion puts out. Lets see what happens in a few months when the loan is due!!! BTW im way younger then you could ever imagine hahahah Keep googleing D it will get you some free t pass at best ha you loser!!

  32. saldathief on March 27th, 2015 11:16 PM

hey moron if they put the casinos up it means the ufc has shit books and not enough credit strength on its own genius !!!hahahah what an idiot

  33. d on March 27th, 2015 11:32 PM

“The fact is you have no information to base anything on !! ”

The single most hypocritical statement I’ve ever heard in my entire life. Literally everything you claim is a delusion that you pull out of your ass, you quack.

Right so your argument is Moody’s and S & P are total frauds, but some retarded, freak, reject like you knows exactly what is going on. HAHAHAHA!! This is also AFTER you asked for a quote from S & P, only to dismiss their findings. You don’t even know what you are ranting about you retard.

“I could be totally off but one number we kind of have is ufc ppv revenue and gates and most gates lose money.”

Yet, you frequently claim those numbers are false, plus you have ZERO evidence to prove the gates lose money, you relentless shit smelling twat.

“For gods sake even the fight purses for all the fox shows is over 34 million, thats not even taking into consideration all the other expenses putting on a show, plus all your imaginary locker room bonuses hahah. I could chip away the fox numbers down to 20 million at most when all is paid!!!!! You clowns have no fucking idea what kind of expenses a promotion puts out. Lets see what happens in a few months when the loan is due!!! ”

Again, more fabrications with zero evidence to back you up moron. What’s amazing is how unaware of how idiotic you come off. You contradict yourself left and right and look like a total moron with every post you make.

When the loan is paid off, you will just continue to rant more of your bullshit. You’ll just alter your delusional argument.

You must be real desperate for those food stamps, homo.

As for your casino comments, I was talking about in relation to the audit you stupid fuck. You didn’t even know what a corporation was you fucking idiot. Don’t act like you know business.
