Then, the UFC offered was personally increased by Lorenzo Fertitta on the day Lesnar made the announcement that he would stick with WWE.
Lesnar announced on ESPN on Monday that he would return to the WWE. The AP story adds the detail that the WWE contract is for 3 years. According to the story, Lesnar remained in contact with the UFC about his decision to stay. Fertitta increased the UFC offer twofold to entice the former UFC Heavyweight champion to comeback. Although enticing, Lesnar decided to stick with professional wrestling.

UFC is clearly in a rebound year, however, looking down the horizon doesn’t really present much for “needle movers”. We all know what Jones is capable of with respect to buyrate and that won’t change much. We have also seen what I would suspect to be the upper tier for viewers with respect to Ronda. I don’t believe that a Rhonda vs. Cyborg fight will come close to a 1 million buy rate. The interest would not be there, even with main stream media attention. So, who are the “needle movers” other than some older stars and the likes of Jones and Rhonda? Maybe Conor will be the guy, but he has to get through Aldo first.
