Payout Perspective:
The ratings are a dip from Fight Night 42 a couple weeks earlier. It may be due to a competing boxing card on HBO (which had an impressive fight between Crawford-Gamboa), the card itself or the fact that it was the second UFC show of the day.
James says
1.2 million viewers on HBO for Gamboa-Crawford.
11k in attendance! 🙂
Diego says
Not a great number but I would venture to say it’s because it was the second show that day. I can’t imagine the Crawford-Gamboa fight (great fight by the way) pulling a lot of UFC viewers.
jesus is coming says
yes sir james .. gamboa vs crawford peaked close to 1.3 million avg little over 1.2 million …. it’s been a great year .. last 3 months have been epic shit .. i feel like every week there something memorable happening …
Logical says
It has really been quite a gradual decline for the UFC ever since they left Spike. Maybe it would have happened anyways but all the facts point to a steady decline at least in their North American Market — Which is probably the reason why they are desperate in expanding internationally.
Supposedly they have gone through a lot of money & collected many debts in their quest to “Reshape the sports world & World F***ing Domination”. Which sounds ridiculous but supposedly they take it so seriously that they have completely messed up their home market with an incessant need to flood it with low quality events. Not to mention all the highly questionable ‘Juiced-up’ fighters to fill them up.
saldathief says
The number seems to be about right and well in their average. Not much more can be said except most likely a huge disappointment for fox and ufc.
James says
Can UFC 175 sell more PPVs than the 350,000 that Cotto vs Martinez did?
saldathief says
175 should sell a few more, Im saying 400-500k if it doesn’t then wow they are in a world of shit for 2014
TRUTHspitter says
A LOT of un-educated folks on this site LMAO
jason finally gives you the real rating and you dont know what youre reading LMFAO
saldathief says
I’m reading a 100 million dollar deal for the UFC with 11k sold at the gate and 700k TV views, its smelling the room up. What are you reading? Truthspitter??
D says
Sal, go check out the rest of the ratings for FS1. They are horrible across the board. This isn’t a reflection of the UFC. It is a reflection of the station. If this was on spike, the ratings would be doing significantly better.
Oh yeah, and you are now admitting that UFC 175 is going to beat Cotto-Martinez. That of course wasn’t what your horrible prediction was and your claim that Cotto-Martinez would outdraw every ufc ppv this year.
Nice try Nostradumbass.
D says
Illogical, how are they desperate? 2013 was a big year for them ppv wise. Doesn’t sound like much of a gradual decline.
Also if you believe that boxers, or other professional athletes aren’t juiced to the max you are very naive. If boxers were blood tested in camp, you would see a lot more of this go down. How about that Marquez, is he just eating wheaties these days?
D says
jesus is not coming, he never existed. Haha.
saldathief says
Well D if you research my posts i said Cotto Marnez ” could” do better or as good as any ppv in 2014 so far it is hanging in there. I also said Froch Groves 2 would do better then the top 2 ufc ppv for 14. So far its gate was probably better then 174 ppv buys baha ass face. Once again you are an idiot these numbers suck ass and spike was years ago. NEXT BTW every major pro athlete is suspect of using PED imo. Boxers have more money to beat the tests unlike the poverty boys at the UFC
saldathief says
Although my “poverty boys” statement may have been seen as harsh, it’s simple, until UFC bans or at least raises the ticket price they will always been seen as the sport with the fan base built up of blacks (to put it kindly) and skinheads(ironic). Boxing, NBA, etc. don’t have the problem as they made it so that these 2 groups are barred from arenas.
And before someone goes off on how i’m being racist, I have no problems with the blacks who aren’t poor but the rest are disgusting to have in attendance at events.
saldathief says
UFC – 9k attendance 700k views FS1 15 fights??
Boxing 11k attendance 1.2 million on HBO pay TV 2 fights?
Wow Boxing fans seem to know what channel to find boxing on, what a shame UFC fans are too stupid to change the channel to find mma.
James says
Its not that UFC fans are too stupid, they just stopped caring when the UFC is on.
Dana’s lame diatribes insult even those with below average intelligence.
Using Mike Tyson and Bruce Lee to promote a crappy videogame… That’s ugly
FightBusiness says
I see these numbers and I think the UFC is simply a niche sport that has hit its peak. These numbers arent bad. They are simply mediocre. Boxing getting 1.2 million viewers for a medicocre card on a premium channel shows boxing is still a very popular sport. Far more than the UFC.
FightBusiness says
In the UFC’s defense they would be hitting 1.1 million viewes a show if they had less cards. Those would still be above average numbers but enough to build a business around.
D says
The beauty of this website is the fact that you can’t delete your comments.
” the truth is Froch Groves 2 and Cotto Martinez will out do the top 2 or even top 3 or 4 ufc ppv combined in 14″
-Saldaqueef
You also said somewhere else where Cotto-Martinez will do better than any ufc, I just don’t feel like drudging through the entire database to find another one of your idiotic posts.
Also, Spike was years ago but Fueltv and FX wasn’t and their numbers were significantly higher than FS1. You are just an idiotic troll that can’t grasp reality.
Boxers have more money to beat the tests? Kind of tough if you are an undercard fighter. Especially the ppv fighters on boxing cards that make 2-3k per fight. Not to mention the fact that boxers do get caught using peds. I guess the following boxers couldn’t afford it: Frans Botha, Roy Jones Jr, James Toney, Fernando Vargas, Shane Mosley, Ricardo Mayorga, etc. Haha. Um, seems like there are bigger names in boxing pissing hot than mma. When was the last time a big named title holder failed a ped test in the UFC? Sean Sherk? Most of the guys who fail are journeymen. Both sports have cheaters. The testing seems more intensive in mma actually. It may have had to do with more fighters possibly taking trt and being tested in camp, but I don’t ever recall hearing about a boxing getting blood tested in camp like Sonnen was. Or even being tested in camp period, not to say that hasn’t happened, but it is extremely rare if it has.
Do you ever know anything about what you claim? You just spew bullshit that you fabricate out of thin air.
D says
Who cares what the attendance was dummy? That is completely irrelevant. That arena could have had 11k in attendance for a Vanilla Ice if the tickets were cheap enough.
HBO is not pay tv specifically for boxing also. That is more of your Arum bullshit. It isn’t like fightpass. Almost everyone that gets hbo does not get it for boxing. You can tell by the subscriptions vs. people that view the fight. Also, another reason why you are a moron- the fact that there were a ton of aired fights on FS1 is a reason why the average gets brought down. This wasn’t total viewers. If the FS1 show only had 2 fights, the average would go up. Far more people want to see the headliner and co main event than want to see no namers on the prelims, lower main card, etc. This is overlooked by all of the boxing fanboys. Not to mention also that this was the second fight card of the day, it had a 145lb non title, non draw headliner that they put virtually no money into promoting. Compared to the boxing card that they promoted well, and had a bigger name in the headline comparative to the UFC’s.
Nice try dipshit.
D says
Fightbusiness, yeah it is a niche sport that dominated the ppv industry for the past 7 years. That has boxing trolls flooding mma websites like emotionally wounded women. Haha. The UFC destroys Top Rank and GB every year in revenue. Their merchandising dominates the big boxing promotions. They land a network deal paying them 100m per year, they have international tv deals that pay them millions in Brazil annually. They have a number of other international tv contracts that are good money.
Fightbusiness they would be hitting over a million per show if they were on a decent channel.
This kind of makes sense coming from a guy who never reads the numbers mmapayout discloses on this website. You just prefer to troll the comments section.
D says
UFC Fight Night 44, gate numbers….. $728,358
UFC Fight Night 43 gate numbers……. $913,000
Gamboa-Crawford gate numbers……..$500,000
Saldaqueef…………………………………..eating crow for the 10,000 time.
HAHAHAHA!!
D says
James/Sampson/Topps, too.
tops E says
D frustrated…ufc sinking…hahaha
saldathief says
Yaaahn yaaahn more Google research dribble how pathetic is a person who goes back and looks at old posts and re posts them omg loser!! bahaha
Anyhow so far my predictions are true Cotto Martinez is actually more than the last 2 ufc ppvs as well. Dont worry the next floyd fight will tank at 500k oh wait that will be almost double of any ufc ppv so far. I said almost adderall boy. And dont get me started on Floyd thats for another topic but he’s becoming a fraud imo
Rob says
Wow! UFC had 702k and still had a .49 18-49 adult rating. HBO did 1.2m and did a .42 18-49 adult rating. 500k more viewers for boxing but they were over the age of 49. Proof that boxing is an old man’s sport. In 10 years those 18-49 numbers for boxing are going to go down. That demo is what networks & advertisers really care about.
Rob says
Also forgot to mention the FS1 was the top sports network in primetime for the night. UFC programming is really helping drive viewers to FS1. FS1 is happy with anything over their average of 200k viewers.
D says
Hahaha. Yeah, that one must have stung Sal. Pretty embarrassing that you were dead wrong once again.
Your prediction was already proven wrong. You claimed that those two fights would do more than the top 4 ufcs this year. Nice backtracking but the quote is above you liar. Already wrong dummy and that is with no big ufcs yet this year.
Yeah, one of us does research before we make claims, the other one is a fucking idiot.
50 year old boxing/karate fanboys that compulsively troll on a mma website shouldn’t accuse anyone of using adderall.
Hahaha.
saldathief says
Everything you 2 fuck tards posted is bull shit.. First off the boxers you mentioned that got pooped for peds have 5 times more fights than any mma fighter, so for a percentage rate they passed way more tests then mma fighters, More money to pass more tests. Example James Toney has 88 fights Sonon has 44 fights, 2 failed tests.so yea boxers percentage wise pass test way more than MMA fighters. More money more passed tests.Yea boxing has older fans always has always will so what, so the boxing fans from the 1950’s who died were replaced by who? Younger fans you complete fuck tard! Also all those age ratings are complete bullshit, how the fuck do they really know the exact age? Its impossible fools! FS1 lmao gimme a break its basically free, anyone with a job and cable has it, and very few people watch it. HBO did 1.2 million for a small fight. Sell that advertising bullshit to some intern at Fox. Boxing is an old man sport , yea most 12 year olds dont understand boxing. All that boxing is over has been proven wrong all your BS is academic. Lets see what 174 and 175 sell bahahaha
D says
HAHAHAHA!! What a surprise, once again Sal gets proven wrong and just exaggerates and comes up with more bullshit.
They passed way more tests??? How do you know idiot? How many times have guys like Mayorga been tested for PEDs? You think these guys all get tested every time they fight in boxing on a low level? Most of those guys don’t get tested until they are on a championship level. Even if they are fighting under a state sanctioned event, most of the fighters are not tested you idiot. How many times has James Toney been tested for PED’s?? That would be relevant. Not how many fights.
Yeah, but the boxing fans from the 50s didn’t have a youth movement that were more into a different sport. There was no legitimate competition dummy. If you think those stats are bullshit-investigate sampling moron. Also, a good example-go look at how many kids where tapout shit, and then see how many kids are wearing Everlast, etc. It isn’t close. Now, that obviously is just ONE example so don’t act like I’m saying that is some case closed example, but it is a good idea of what younger people are into as well as the polls that confirm the younger demo’s preference.
FS1 is a new station, when they were on FUEL significantly more people were watching it. The ratings have more to do with the station, not the sport.
Let’s see what UFC 175 does?? More than Cotto-Martinez did where you predicted Cotto would do more. Idiot.
You get proven dead wrong statistically every time you make a post yet you keep coming back like a retard with the same Bob Arum bullshit.
Have you no shame Sally?
BrainSmasher says
You are so full of shit Sal! Boxers fought 90% of those fights in low level shows that do little to no testing. No one even knows who the hell these boxers are until they have fought 20-30 times. To act like they are tested like big event fights is stupid. Even small MMA events are not required to test their fights. The commission can do it at random but rarely do. When they do it is one or two fighters. The promoters are to small to afford to test their fighters and the commissions, even the biggest like Nevada, do not have the budget to test many fighters if any. So no they haven’t been tested more than UFC fighters. They were tested 10-15 times or how ever many fights they had while in the spot light of a main event of a major event.
UFC fighters are test way more on average because they often get in the UFC after 5-10 fights and are tested almost every single fight of their career in the UFC.something only done to the biggest name boxers.
saldathief says
Yes big name boxers, there are thousands and thousands of boxing fights all over the world and in every country, some get paid a meal, so yea I’m talking about headline named fighters. Here is a fact for all you fuck tards who still live with their parents and have no clue! When someone makes more money they can afford better things!! DUGH Main Event Boxers, NFL NBA can afford big houses, nice cars , lots of drugs, and plenty of coaches, doctors, trainers and whatever they need. Does that make sense to you morons??? So yea some asshole in the UFC making a few hundred grand cant afford the same as someone making millions does that register with you retards???
saldathief says
Yup boxing is dying, no one watches it except 1.2 million over 49 year olds bahahahaha
D says
Well obviously it isn’t as effective for those guys you claim are making more money. You dodged the point that I made which was that those boxers aren’t tested more. You presented no evidence as usual to your absurd, diabetic induced, Arum-laced claims. Those boxers aren’t even tested every time unless they were headlining. Your argument was that since they fight more often than mma fighters, they are tested more, which is something only a complete moron would say because the majority of those fights are against cans where neither fighter is tested.
Name some poor championship level mma fighters that can’t afford beating a test? Do you honestly think Chael Sonnen or Belfort don’t make more than the overwhelming majority of boxers? They have made millions fighting in the ufc. The problem is they were tested in camp. It wouldn’t matter how much money you have at that point. Even Lance Armstrong pointed this out. Think about how stupid you are: you are claiming the top boxers get paid more money, therefore are better at beating tests. So you are assuming that mma fighters can’t afford the same drs, coaches, etc. Are you suggesting that fighters who make millions can’t afford high level clinics/drs, etc? This example could be problematic for you:
http://www.mmamania.com/2013/7/25/4557078/biogenesis-whistleblower-mlb-mma-fighters-steroids-ped-drugs-ufc
All major sports athletes are tied to these big ped clinics. The stars can afford it-you know the ones even you acknowledged are primarily tested.
Once again Sal is proven to be a massive moron.
How’s that disability going Sal??
TRUTHspitter says
damn my boy rob is legit.
