Pacquiao signs endorsement deal with Hewlett Packard

May 3, 2011 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Sports Business Journal is reporting that Manny Pacquiao has signed a sponsorship deal with HP. The fighter will be featured in HP’s new promotional campaign for its tablet computer.

Via Sports Business Journal (subscription required):

Working through agency William Morris, Top Rank submitted Pacquiao to HP when it learned the brand was looking for a select group of high-profile entertainers and athletes to feature in the campaign, which will include television, radio, print, outdoor and billboard components, all of which will feature the fighter and run globally.

Top Rank would not discuss financials of the deal, other than to say it included HP products and a cash contribution toward charities of Pacquiao’s choice. The deal was attractive because of the level of credible exposure

Payout Perspective:

The HP deal comes after Top Rank became the commercial agent for Pacquiao outside of the Philippines. Notably, Top Rank worked with William Morris to attain this deal. It appears that Pacquiao’s lack of a endorsement portfolio helped him receive the HP deal as many sports celebrities had conflicting endorsement deals.

The deal could be the start of more of a global presence for the Pacquiao brand. The article indicates that Top Rank has signed a three-year licensing deal for Pacquiao with State Street Produce. The San Antonio-based company will rename its vegetable produce, “Pacquiao Produce” and use his likeness as it distributes produce to restaurants and retail outlets.  An interesting deal for Pacquiao’s brand, but the deal is reported to be worth at least $1 million.

I should point out that according to those at TKO that the ESPN/MVPW boxing deal is a revenue sharing agreement similar to the original AEW/Turner deal in 2019 and not a full paying media rights deal which Top Rank had and wasn't renewed.
