Floyd Mayweather gets in trouble for writing bad check

June 16, 2026 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Floyd Mayweather, Jr.’s fight calendar includes at least three fights in the ring and several outside it. The latest being a potential felony charge due to writing a bad check to purchase a watch.

The check for $200,000 is considered a felony due to the lofty amount per Nevada law.

A Las Vegas shop, Gold and Beyond, made the complaint with the Clark County District Attorney’s office this past February. The store did not want to press charges and wanted to resolve the issue but after not receiving word back from Mayweather, filed the report.

Mayweather is (or was) slated to have three exhibition matches this year including one against Mike Tyson and another against Manny Pacquiao. Although little has been written about it, Mayweather is fighting Mike Zambidis in Greece on June 27th.

Money issues have been brought up about the man nicknamed, “Money” Mayweather. According to ESPN, the IRS has a tax lien of more than $7.2M against him. He filed a lawsuit against Showtime Boxing and former executive Stephen Espinoza. In addition, he filed a lawsuit against former business partners for $175M.

The recent legal and business issues for Mayweather infer that the 50-0 boxer is suffering from financial woes. While it is speculative, the news tends to weigh in favor of some financial upheaval requiring Mayweather to make decisions based on money.

Yes, the Pulitzer-winning journalist is the source we should ignore, not the people who continue to want access to the LA sports team they cover. This was a dumb thing to think and an even dumber thing to tweet.
