Usyk returns with fight at the Pyramids in Egypt

February 27, 2026 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

WBC Heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk is scheduled to return to the ring to defend his title against kickboxer Rico Verhoven per ESPN.

The event will air on DAZN and be dubbed, “Glory of Giza: Undefeated Icons,” will take place on May 23rd.

Usyk last fought in the ring this past July with a 5th round KO over Daniel DuBois. Usyk, 24-0, with 15KOs had contemplated a fight against Deontay Wilder, but decided to go with Verhoven. The 36-year-old Verhoven last fought in a kickboxing match in June, a unanimous decision victory.

The event will have an interesting backdrop as the Pyramids will be a huge part of this event. The event seems to be key for international fans as well as DAZN’s streaming platform.
