Top 10 of 2025 – No 6 Jon Jones retires

December 29, 2025 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

The headline is misleading since Jones immediately started flirting with the idea of returning once Donald Trump told people he’d be having fights at The White House.

But, its another year with Jones being on the periphery of MMA but wanting to be the center point.

Jones has not fought since stopping Stipe Miocic in November 2024 when he won the UFC Heavyweight title. Since then, any thought of fighting Tom Aspinall was quickly dismissed. Instead, he wanted a fight with Alex Pereira.

He got neither. In fact, Jones retired in June without the fanfare associated with a fighter’s last time in the Octagon.

The news of his retirement was preceded with another legal run-in where he allegedly fled the scene of a car accident in which his car was found at the scene of an accident with a woman in the front driver seat.

From our post in June 2025:

Albuquerque police are seeking phone records based on a hit-and-run accident in February where a passenger to a car claims that Jones fled the scene. The passenger, a woman without pants, claims that she was at Jones’ house and the two consumed alcohol and allegedly took mushrooms. Notably, the woman is not his wife.

MMA Junkie obtained police bodycam footage which revealed that the police were on the phone with an individual that sounded like Jones. The voice spoke in a slurred voice and authorities state that the v voice claimed to make “allusions of violence.”

Despite Jones’ attorney flatly denying the claims made against his client, Jones implicated himself in a post that he has since deleted. Jones tweeted describing the phone conversation with the police officer. Thus, tacitly admitting that he was the driver of the crime and fled the scene.

He is his own worst enemy.

Despite Jones’ interest in a spot at The White House, Dana White has confirmed that the former Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight champion will not be fighting. Perhaps White recalls UFC 200 and having to move UFC 232 from Vegas to Los Angeles last minute for him.

We last saw Jon Jones celebrating Thanksgiving in Russia which had many, including former rival Daniel Cormier, asking why he was there instead of his wife and kids. A good question, but that seems to be Jones’ problem.
