UFC flyweight Maryna Moroz is suspended for 1 year retroactive to July 16, 2025 as a result of a finding of meldonium. Combat Sports Anti-Doping found the banned substance meldonium in two out of competition samples.
Per the UFC release, “Moroz provided medical documentation that she was under the care of a licensed physician who was treating her reported medical symptoms with meldonium. However, Moroz did not tell her physician that she was a drug tested athlete, did not check with UFC-provided resources about the prohibited status of meldnium and did not submit an application for a therapeutic use exemptions [TUE] to seek permission to use the otherwise prohibited substance for medical reasons.”
Moroz will be available to fight again on July 16, 2026, which is the date that she was notified of being provisionally suspended.
Moroz cooperated with the investigation and argued that she used meldonium for a limited time at a time that she did not have any bouts scheduled.
Meldonium is a banned substance and can be used to enhance performance by boosting endurance and facilitating a faster recovery. It is also used to assist people with heart conditions.
Moroz (11-6) has been on a 3-fight losing streak with her last UFC fight occurring this past March, a loss to Joanne Wood.
Payout Perspective:
It is a tough penalty for Moroz considering her cooperation with the investigation. But, Moroz did not follow the protocol in letting her physician know, or at least request a TUE. At 33 years old, and on a losing streak in the promotion, the time off may help her get ready for another run in the company.
