Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. deported to Mexico, arrested

August 19, 2025 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

MMA Junkie reports that Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. was deported an entered a prison in Northern Mexico. Only days after being in the main event against Jake Paul in Anaheim, California, JCC, Jr. was arrested at his Southern California home by ICE officials.

The president of Mexico confirmed that Chavez, Jr. had been deported and was now in a prison in Mexico. Its alleged that he has ties to the Sinaloa Cartel according to federal government officials. Chavez, Jr.’s lawyers deny the allegations.

Records indicate that JCC, Jr. entered the United States legally that was valid until February 2024. JCC, Jr. was arrested in Los Angeles in January 2024 in Los Angeles on felony gun possession charges after police found him in possession of two AR-style ghost rifles. According to court records, JCC, Jr. pled not guilty and agreed to a pretrial diversion program that he was in up until June 2025.

However, after his fight with Jake Paul on June 28, 2025, JCC, Jr. was arrested by ICE at his Los Angeles home on July 2nd.

Payout Perspective:

While the underlying facts may indicate that the arrest and deportation of JCC, Jr. may have been correct. It still reeks of a public relations stunt to show that the current administration can do anything it wants. Even allowing an alleged criminal make money for a friend of the administration (Jake Paul) and then sending him off to another country’s jail. If JCC, Jr. was truly a criminal risk, they could have pulled him from the fight. Obviously, JCC, Jr. obtained a state boxing license, trained in the U.S., and was readily available to be detained by ICE. But, it waited until after the Paul fight to make the arrest.

Yes, the Pulitzer-winning journalist is the source we should ignore, not the people who continue to want access to the LA sports team they cover. This was a dumb thing to think and an even dumber thing to tweet.
