Brock Lesnar returns to WWE

August 4, 2025 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Pro wrestling is full of surprises. Summerslam took place this past weekend at Met Life Stadium in Newark, New Jersey. The company saved the biggest surprise for the last night.

On the first night of Wrestlemania, Seth Rollins cashed his Money in the Bank briefcase to wrest the WWE Heavyweight title away from CM Punk who had just one the title. A little of teasing for Punk, who had chased the title for so long only to lose it minutes later to longtime nemesis Rollins. Also, irony as it was Punk that caused Drew McIntyre the title at Wrestlemania 40 after he won had one it.

The setup for the return of Lesnar on night 2 occurred after Cena lost to Cody Rhodes in a streetfight. The fans cheered Cena in a curtain call. Remarkably the WWE fans demanded Cena turn back from heel to face and the company obliged in a dramatic WWE Smackdown promo the night before. Thus, the stage was set for the ultimate heel, Lesnar to return.

Lesnar took his time coming down to the ring wearing a leather vest and black hat. Lesnar used his trademark F5 to take down the former champ and once again the rivalry returns in what should be the last angle of the year for Cena.

The obvious question is why use Lesnar who was named in the Janel Grant lawsuit against Vince McMahon. On Monday, Triple H stated that it was Cena who requested Lesnar to return. Even though Cena has a lot of clout with the company, one has to wonder if legal had concerns. Lesnar, the character is clear, but the character that plays the on-screen persona is involved in a serious lawsuit. So, why would WWE allow this to happen. Did they think that enough time had passed for people to forget the allegations of the lawsuit? Does WWE think that the allegations did not happen?

In my opinion, its the strength of TKO at this point in time. It is on a high with everything it does. From WWE to UFC, the company is raking in revenue and people love the product. Despite the fact that it aligns itself with the president, people are still clamoring for its product. We will see if this continues into the fall.
