An appeals court in Ireland has denied Conor McGregor’s appeal of a civil sexual assault ruling late last year. The jury ruled in favor of the accuser, and she was awarded approximately $257,000 USD and over $1 million in legal fees and costs.
The lawsuit stems from an incident in 2018 where McGregor sexually assaulted an acquaintance that he and a friend met that night. The jury found McGregor civilly liable for the assault despite his claims that the sexual acts were consensual.
On appeal, McGregor attempted to introduce new evidence that a neighbor had witnessed the accuser getting into a physical altercation with another prior to meeting the former UFC champ which would explain her bruising on the night of the incident. However, that evidence was withdrawn earlier this month.
Payout Perspective:
It appears that the appeal and alleged new evidence may have been a false flag to protect McGregor’s persona. From an outsider’s point of view, one might see this as a last chance effort in order to clear his name. Regardless, McGregor claims he is back in the UFC testing pool and aims to fight at the alleged event at The White House next July.
