Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. arrested by ICE, to be deported

July 3, 2025 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Just days after main-eventing with Jake Paul in Anaheim, California, boxer Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. has been detained by ICE officials and will be deported to Mexico. The boxer was arrested in Studio City, California.

JCC, Jr., the son of famous boxer, Julio Cesar Chavez has had a less-than-sterling boxing career. His latest bout was a showcase for Paul who is middling through hand-picked boxers that have past-their prime (Mike Tyson) or randoms (Ben Askren).

The Department of Homeland Security issued a release in which it calls the boxer a “criminal illegal alien.” The release also alleges that JCC, Jr. is a member of the Sinaloa Cartel, “a designated Foreign Terrorist Organization.” The release states that Chavez filed an application for Lawful Permanent Resident status in April 2, 204 as he is married to a U.S. citizen. The DHS claim that his wife is also connected with the cartel.

Per the release:” Following multiple fraudulent statements on his application to become a Lawful Permanent Resident, he was determined to be in the country illegally and removable on June 27, 2025.”

His fight with Jake Paul was Saturday, January 28, 2025.

While JCC, Jr. does have a criminal record, none of the offenses give rise to a level of violence. Moreover, none of his offenses would link him to criminal activity with the cartel. The determination of JCC, Jr.’s status makes it seem like a public relations ploy and another sign that the government is implementing an ad hoc policy for detaining and deporting people of color.

How could an individual that was deemed wanted, be allowed to fight Jake Paul (a noted Trump supporter) if it was known that he was in the country illegally and they determined that he must be deported. Also, UFC 317 took place on the same night in Las Vegas, Nevada, but there were no athletes taken by ICE as far as we know.

The new administration’s policy is intimidating, troublesome and unconstitutional. The removal of JCC, Jr. is the latest example of how they are attempting to intimidate and strike fear in immigration.

Yes, the Pulitzer-winning journalist is the source we should ignore, not the people who continue to want access to the LA sports team they cover. This was a dumb thing to think and an even dumber thing to tweet.
