Haney-Garcia lawsuit nears end

March 26, 2025 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia should be appearing on the same card on May 2nd in Times Square. The card should square the two up for a fall showdown. But the matter of their lawsuit remains pending.

While Garcia will return from a year-long suspension to fight Rolly Romero and Haney will take on Jose Ramirez, the two should be up for a rematch this fall. But, prior to the matchups made, with help from Saudi Arabia, Devin Haney sued Ryan Garcia. The lawsuit claimed that Garcia was intentionally missed weight and asserted a battery claim as a result of Garcia testing positive for a banned substance.

Garcia filed counterclaims for Abuse of Process and Tortious Interference with Prospective Economic Advantage. Garcia claimed that Haney was using the legal system in order to coax Garcia into another lawsuit. He also argued that due to the lawsuit, it blocked any other opportunities for Garcia to fight.

While the lawsuit appeared to be a prolonged, contentious fight, it turns out that the parties are likely settling soon. Thanks, in part, to a “third party” funding a “series of boxing events.”

While we may be quick to judgment one might assume that Riyadh Season was that “third party” that would be funding a rematch between the two. It is Turki Al-Sheikh that is promoting the unique, May 2nd boxing event in Times Square in which both Haney and Garcia will be on the card.

One would assume that the sides will end the lawsuit and continue their fight in the ring.
