Cain Velasquez sentenced for 2022 shooting

March 24, 2025 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Former UFC heavyweight champion was sentenced to five years in prison by a Santa Clara Court for a February 2022 incident in which he chased after and repeatedly shot at a vehicle that had a man accused of molesting his son.

Velasquez wounded the man’s father who was in the vehicle. He was credited with over 1,200 days in jail. He had been on house arrest since November 2022.

On Kyle’s Kingbury’s podcast, Velasquez took responsibility for his actions in February 2022. Specifically, he realized that shooting at the vehicle could have had deep repercussions if he struck an innocent bystander.

The man Velasquez had shot at, Harry Goularte, is going to trial in June for one count of lewd acts with a minor. Goularte is being accused of molesting Velasquez’s then 4-year-old son at a daycare center.

While the UFC and general MMA community lent Velasquez support, it’s clear that he broke the law and endangered innocent bystanders by attempting to take the law into his own hands.

Yes, the Pulitzer-winning journalist is the source we should ignore, not the people who continue to want access to the LA sports team they cover. This was a dumb thing to think and an even dumber thing to tweet.
