Ryan Garcia returns in Times Square card

February 28, 2025 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Ryan Garcia will return from his year-long suspension in fashion as he will headline a card on May 2nd in Times Square. The event will be a Ring Magazine card. Notably, Ring Magazine is backed by Turki Al-Shiekh’s Saudi General Entertainment Authority.

Devin Haney will appear on the same card as well as Teofimo Lopez which will likely be the setup for a fall rematch between Garcia and Haney.

Garcia faces Rolly Romero in the main event while Haney takes on Jose Ramirez in another 140lb fight. Lopez will defend his WBO title against Arnold Barboza, Jr. in the event’s main card opener.

The location of the event is unprecedented considering that they will need to transform Times Square into a quasi-boxing arena.

Garcia’s return will be met with a lot of eyes based on last year’s erratic behavior and subsequent year-long suspension. But, if both he and Haney look sharp, it could set up a potential huge fight this fall.

Notably, the card takes place on Friday night which may add to headaches of New York traffic. But, it does forego a showdown with Canelo Alvarez on Saturday night as he has a tune-up fight with William Scull in preparation for his September 2025 showdown with Terrence Crawford.
