UFC head Dana White was elected to the Board of Directors of Meta on Monday. A report by Sportico notes that White could make $50,000 as part of his work on the Board.
According to a Meta compensation report, White could receive $50K for his participation on the board. The fee is comparable to normal compensation for those that serve on boards.
“I’ve never been interested in joining a board of directors until I got the offer to join Meta’s board,” White said in a statement. However, he indicated that his interest in social media and AI peaked his interest in this post.
Obviously, Zuckerberg appointing White to the board has something to do with the president-elect. Zuckerberg has donated $1 million to Donald Trump inauguration fund and has appointed former George W. Bush staffer Joel Kaplan as president of Meta global affairs.
Notably, ahead of White’s assignment to the board, Meta is deleting history critical of White. Comments made by Zuckerberg about the announcement of the new board members sparked some (ahem) criticism and cynicism. Some critics pointed to the video of White slapping his wife in public and did not receive nary a rebuke for his actions. But, those critiques were quashed to ensure White would be welcomed.
White’s role on the Board is unknown at this point although he could serve as an influential person on the board for Mark Zuckerberg. Zuckerberg is infatuated with MMA and this could bode well for the influence White may have on the Board.
