Dana White offered his first public response to the Irish jury verdict finding Conor McGregor guilty of sexual assault. However, he gave a brusque response without offering any substantive comment on the manner.
At the post-UFC 311 press conference White was asked about a jury finding Conor McGregor liable for sexual assault in Ireland. “If I had a comment I would have put it out already,” White told Kevin Iole at the press conference.
McGregor was found guilty by a jury in Dublin of sexual assault and ordered to pay the equivalent of $260,000. McGregor vowed to appeal the jury verdict. In the meantime, the Court issued an order that he pay the plaintiff’s attorney and court costs of over $1M US dollars.
White, who has had his own domestic violence issues, offered no comment which would condemn or comfort McGregor. His last fight in the UFC was in July 2021 and White offered up that if he were to fight again in the UFC it would occur next year.
Payout Perspective:
While professional leagues offer condemnation for bad acts, White offered none. He was never going to suspend on cut McGregor due to this court verdict for an incident that occurred in 2018. But he could have offered some type of “slap on the wrist” for the court finding him guilty. Yet, this is the new UFC which no longer hides behind any HR policy. One has to think White made the decision (or was asked) not to make any comment which would denounce the jury verdict due to the fact that it would draw more attention to one of its money generators.
