Paul-Tyson is getting heavy buzz

November 14, 2024 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

The fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul is set for tomorrow airing “free” on Netflix. It is an experiment for all involved and it looks like its going to be a success.

First off, the official weigh-ins were not public and it will be up to the promotion to provide that information. I wouldn’t hold my breath.

I’m told by TDLR they are unable to release the official #PaulTyson weights recorded at weigh-ins this morning, and it will be up to the promotion to provide the numbers before ceremonials.

The early weigh-ins are closed to media.

Regardless of boxing purists or combat sport fans think, people are coming to see the show.

To put this Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson match into perspective: it’s the best-selling event at AT&T Stadium this year on StubHub, outselling last week's Cowboys-Eagles game by 24%. 🥊👀 #PaulTyson

Also of note, gamblers believe that Tyson still has what it takes to stop Paul. Moreover, it looks like this fight is “on pace to be the most heavily bet boxing match in years” per ESPN. While Tyson is an underdog, his odds have gone down from +225 to +175 while Paul remains the -225 favorite. The article also reports that two bettors have put down $500K on Paul to win.

Mike Coppinger of ESPN also notes the special rules allowed by Texas for this fight. The boxing match is sanctioned by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the fighters will wear 14-ounce gloves as opposed to the normal 10-ounce gloves, the rounds will be two minutes instead of three and there will be only 8 rounds as opposed to 10 or 12.

Payout Perspective:

Is this entertainment or sports? Or sports entertainment? Whatever it is, the wait (originally scheduled for July) and hype for the event is real and everyone involved should make money. Its hard to believe that in the sport of boxing, this fight will (likely) be the highest-grossing and most attended fight in 2024. Also, Netflix should be excited about the possible results in its move to sports.
