Report: AEW officially agrees to deal with WBD, to stream on Max

October 2, 2024 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Variety reports that AEW has signed a multi-year multimedia rights deal with Warner Bros. Discovery. No financial terms were disclosed but sources from Variety stated that the deal is valued at upwards of $150 million per year.

AEW shows “Dynamite” and “Collision” will remain on TBS and TNT. But starting in January 2025, subscribers to Max will be able to stream on-demand content. AEW live PPVs will be available later in 2025 at a discounted price per event. The deal also includes distribution rights across social media as well as potential new AEW programming on linear and digital platforms.

Payout Perspective:

It would seem that the deal is lower than the first report by John Ourand which pinned it at three years $170 million per year with an option for a fourth. The Variety report does not indicate the number of years and whether there is an option for more years. The company’s ratings and popularity have flailed since its debut in 2019. While forecasters thought $200 million per year was a sweet spot for the company, it still has a product pinned to the A18-49 demo.
