Judge Boulware denies Motions for Approval, Le v. Zuffa trial tentatively set for October 24th

July 30, 2024 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Judge Richard Boulware has denied the Motions for Approval brought by the parties in the Le and Johnson antitrust lawsuits against Zuffa. The Le case will proceed to trial on Monday, October 24th pending a status conference on August 19th.

Judge Boulware will discuss both cases at the August 19th status conference.

You may recall that Judge Boulware held two status conferences regarding the Motion to Approve the $335 million settlement between the Le and Johnson parties. Judge Boulware expressed concern over the Johnson parties. I discuss the most recent status conference in The Legal Submission below.

Pending a status conference set for August 19th, the Le case will go forward on October 24th. The tentative date is based on attorney and witness availability. Regardless, the trial date is likely to start before the end of the year barring another attempt at settlement. As Sportico wrote this past weekend, this appears to be a case that neither litigant wants to take to trial. However, the judge seems undeterred with the proposed settlement plans based on what he’s heard from the parties on this case.

MPO will keep you updated.
