Ryan Garcia forfeits over 1M, suspended a year

June 21, 2024 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Boxer Ryan Garcia has been suspended one year by the New York State Athletic Commission after he tested positive for a banned substance, ostarine. His win over Devin Haney was overturned and he forfeited his purse of $1.2 million.

In addition Garcia was fined $10,000 from the commission. The 25-year-old made millions more despite losing the disclosed pay for the fight and additional penalty.

Ostarine, is a performance enhancing drug which the boxer claims was likely in a tainted supplement he took while preparing for the Haney fight.

Garcia will be available to return to boxing on April 20, 2025 provided he has a clean urine test with no banned substances.

Garcia’s team provided a lengthy statement indicating that the boxer’s positive tests were a result of “substance contamination.”

Garcia, who was last seen in public at the Gervonta Davis fight, put up some comments on social media after the settlement. Here is a smattering of the posts.

The one year suspension will fly by but in the meantime Garcia seems to be in the midst of issues. At the Davis fight, he was caught in an altercation with Caleb Plant, he’s been sued by Logan Paul’s company, Prime and he was arrested in Beverly Hills for trashing a hotel. The fine and suspension will not mean much to Garcia who seems to find trouble where he goes.
