Earnings docs show WWE paid $20M settlement to MLW to resolve antitrust lawsuit

February 28, 2024 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

TKO Group Holdings disclosed its earnings for the fully year in 2023 and in the required documents filed with the Security and Exchange Commission it disclosed the amount it paid MLW to settle its lawsuit.

According to SEC filings it paid $20 million to settle the lawsuit this past December.

MLW filed the lawsuit against WWE claiming that it had used its market power to dissuade potential media partners from airing MLW. I explain the lawsuit below.

The news comes at a time when the UFC heads to trial against former UFC fighter in an antitrust lawsuit. The parties just announced that they are in private mediation with the hopes of settling the lawsuit. If the $20 million settlement is some benchmark, expect TKO Group to expend much more money if it intends to settle with the former fighters. Notably, I did not believe the MLW case was particularly strong yet they received a settlement. The former UFC fighters have a stronger case, but still face a strong battle ahead, if they do not settle the case.
