Dan Rafael reports that the fight between Canelo Alvarez and Jermell Charlo drew 600-700K PPV buys. The reported buys would make it the third-highest selling fight of the year next to Tank-Ryan Garcia and Jake Paul-Tommy Fury earlier this year.
Alvarez won a one-sided unanimous decision over Charlo and retained his undisputed super middleweight titles.
Last September, Alvarez’s victory over GGG drew 550,000-575,000 buys.
The PPV reflects the continued popularity of Canelo. Despite his last 3 performances which were less-than-stellar, Canelo fans are still willing to pay $85 to watch him fight. We will see what comes next for Alvarez as he eyes a return to the boxing ring in May.
