The UFC and sports betting monitor Prohibet announced a collaboration in which the UFC will use Prohibet’s platform to crack down on gambling by fighters, coaches, employees and officials. This is an effort to enforce the UFC policy for fighters that may attempt to bet on fights.
Prohibet is a joint venture between US Integrity and Odds on Compliance. It has a notification platform meant to inform properties or colleges when people within their industry place questionable wagers.
Via a portion of the Prohibet press release:
ProhiBet’s cutting-edge technology provides a secure and transparent method for sports properties, both professional and collegiate, and sportsbook operators, to ensure that athletes, coaches, and league/school administrative staff remain compliant with the intricate web of state regulations that govern sports betting activities.
This new measure comes at a time when the FBI is still investigating James Krause of an alleged illegal betting ring organized by the former trainer.
Payout Perspective:
The announcement and quotes by the UFC indicates how the organization embraces regulation and the use of this technology will help police illegal gambling. Obviously the integrity of the promotion is paramount due to the larger issue that many of its sponsors center around gambling. Moreover, the company broadcasts discuss lines and wagering more than ever in its telecasts and PPVs. But, the main thing it cannot have is any speculation that the fights might in some way be “fixed.” This would cause a grand meltdown of the sponsors, viewership and overall popularity because gambling is a major part of the sport. It just can’t be for the people doing the fighting.
