On Wednesday, Judge Richard Boulware finally issued his ruling granting class certification in favor of the former UFC fighters in the long-awaited ruling which would start the march toward an eventual trial. The ruling is 80 pages long and goes into detail the reasons why it found that class certification was appropriate for the defined ’bout’ class of fighters in the lawsuit.
While Judge Boulware inferred this was his ruling, we have been waiting over 2 years for the final opinion to come through. It is a relief for the plaintiffs who had pushed for a hearing to discuss the status of the lawsuit after several years in stagnation. What’s next is a likely appeal by Zuffa regarding class certification. Also of note is the denial of class certification with respect to the ‘identity’ class of fighters regarding fighters’ respective intellectual property rights.
MMA Payout will have more as I read through the ruling.
